That's awesome! Good to hear you're getting such a long engine life out of it.

I have a new taotao 150 and am considering an upgrade Scrappy's has a larger performance carburetor and exhaust that looks appealing? What would I get ? Would it be worth it to let it breathe a little without touching the base engine. Would appreciate opinions and suggestions alike. Thanks ! I just picked up a 150cc scoot the other day. Same exact engine as in your tao. The carb update won't be necessary but you will need to upjet and retune your carb if you were to put an exhaust on to account for more airflow. No need to upgrade carb unless you bore it out imo. If you have access to a welder you can modify your stock exhaust. I do it on all my scoots. Totally free.. look it up! Can you show us how you mod your stock exhaust? Ive seen some videos, im just curious how you do it. Im planning on modding my exhaust and re jetting the carb in the spring.

Make sure your muffler isn't clogged they hide a converter in these now, mine was clogging and getting super hot I will post a picture of the convulted mess that was inside I was tossing around the idea of de-restricting the stock muffler or not to. Does is matter what type of muffler they put on there too? I have the gray aluminum style that has a "burn warning" plaque riveted onto it.

Great. That will be a pain, but nothing that cant be fixed. I may just drill and use a small easy out on those too. It's not a big deal as long as I can find replacements for them at the hardware store.

Thanks for the responses and links. I'm looking for the OEM hand guards. Im not looking to spend much on this scooter so if i can't find a place to buy them from, ill modify the mounting brackets for the hand guards and blinkers to only hold the blinkers. Ill cut the rest of the metal off and run the scooter without hand guards.

what size scooter would help? Sorry, its a 150cc GY6. Apparently the brand is Yiben and the model is YB150T-9. I have ridden it for about 75 miles (121 km) and it has backfired once right when i got on the throttle from a dead stop. The mid range power seems to be good but once i get above 40-45 mph the power really drops off which leads me to believe that the main jet is a bit too small. The exhaust can is very hot after I ride it, I'll put my temp gun on it after my next ride. The oil level is at the proper level in the reservoir. I live in Wisconsin so the weather is getting cold. I may put it away for the winter soon. The plan is to go 1 or 2 jet sizes higher on the main jet and bring out the idle mixture screw about an 1/8th of a turn, maybe a bit more if needed.

My scooter appears to be running slightly lean as I would expect it to be. From what I read, most of the chinese scoots are tuned to run lean out of the crate. I have 300 km on mine now. My question is, how much of a higher jet size should I go with if I dont modify the air intake or the exhaust or anything else? So if I have a 100 jet in there now, could I go to a 103,105,110? I want this thing to be reliable and if I can pick up some more power on the top end, that would be great. Thanks

Hello,
I have the same scooter in the attached image. It's a Chinese brand called Taizhou city kaitong and the model is YB150T-9. I got this scooter for a great deal, but the previous owner didnt have the hand guards that came with the bike. Could anyone help me find where I could get some? Thanks in advance.
