Like the title says. I have a job with a big tarmac area, good for "off road" vehicles. Thx, Not so much interested in hearing any second hand experiences with converting a scooter, just exploring the possibilities.

I rode a couple miles in the rain ( a florida tropical storm and through six inches of water ) and later that night it wouldnt start. The right turn signal started to work again though.
The next morning it started but the right turn signal didn't work. The performance of the scoot was down and i think it got better as the scoot dried out more.
I believe that the right turn signal has a bad connection somewhere as i recently used some Stanley L shaped brackets to put the turn indicators on a different part of my bike. I guess it coulda been my air filter that was wet.
I created this thread so we could discuss wet and snow conditions, the things that affect our scooters and how to counter them.

I am nervous about disconnecting the engine from the frame. Have you done this before?
For first time I recently: -put on new carb -tuned carb -adjusted valves
How hard is it to disconnect engine from frame? I plan on putting the engine on my work table with help from friend.

Florida, have you ever worked with cast aluminum before? No, I have not. I do undrrstand the different applications of types of metal. Aluminum is "soft and lightweight" and maybe....sheds heat qucker than cast iron. Why, what concerns did you have?

I am working up the nerve to dissasemble my scooter in order to reverse drill/easy out a broken off exhuast bolt.
What is the exhuast header connected to? Underneath the scoot.
I cant reach the bolt with drill right now.
I can take the ( insert part name here ) off the engine right?
Help me identify this part.
Thanks,
***also, what is the best way to extract bolt? Do i have to disconnect engine from frame? I can hang bike from garage rafters if needed.

Broward county is too many miles for me. I would snap that muffler up in a heartbeat. Im in pinellas county. Tampa Bay.
Thx for the offer though.

The header pipe draws heat away from the exhaust port preventing it from overheating. The back pressure from the muffler causes the bike to run richer cooling down the engine too so without the exhaust it will run hot and lean increasing the chances of burning the exhaust valve and damaging the exhaust port. Since the back pressure from the muffler also increases the pulse of the intake removing the muffler can make the pulse so minimal that the vacuum powered fuel pump may no longer work or work well further increasing the change of running hot and lean. When running hot and lean you can also end up burning a hole in the top of the piston which can result in throwing the connecting rod through the engine block for total engine failure. With the current weather in Florida its not a good idea to run without the exhaust on the bike. Thanks bro. Nice post. Very informative. Wish i had your brains. Im trying not to ride the scoot in hot weather. It does make a big difference.

I am new to engines. I still am unsure about if I can replace the current head on my scoot with both 64 and 69mm valves. As in when replacing the head with a new one from ebay and presented with the choice of either 64 or 69mm its up to the person buying the product and not what my gmw scooter calls for, as in there would be incompatability issues and trouble if I didnt stick to whatevr size valves my scoot has stock.
So , does anyone have an answer to the question, when buying a new head along with the bbk( which i am) i need to buy the sMe size valves as what is in it right now? The stock size, do i have to stick with that ( i dont know the stock size) or can i get whatever i want, 64 or 69, my choice.
I read a verylong journal on a board from a guy with the same scooter as me and was installing the same bbk/ head. He said that "im gonna order the 64mm and hope its the right size". Ive tried to contact him but was unable. His scoot turned out to be pretty nice with the upgrades but he eventually broke his leg badly while driving the scoot in the grass.
I also saw on this website that sells scooter parts that "znen/wolf/gmw have a valve size other than 64mm and to be sure of the size of the valves in your engine before ordering the head..

I am in the process of fixing the exhuast stud that broke off in the head. I have been riding without any exhuast. 3 mile trips at the most. It runs ok just very loud.
My starter is starting to deteriorate. Its hard to start now and i have to get it just right. I also noticed the kickstart wont work. It used to with the exhuast on.
Am i doing damage to my scoot by not having an exhuast on it? What are your thoughts?
*** i am quite aware of the social and legal complications that arise when your scoot is very loud in public. Dont need any help with that

It's a night and day difference with a bbk on these smaller engines-- way better accelleration and hill climbing is much better. Your overall average speed from point A to point B will be much better. [br Yea, thats what im hoping for. A quicker pace and more....."flowy" like finding the right line on a dirt bike. I moticed the other day the i have better flow on my high end mountain bike than my scooter cause of the poor acceleration. I want performance dammit. Lol

This is a learning process and i am having fun while doing it. I feel confident that i can do almost anything to my scoot with pait ence and a little help. I have a good work area with all the tools except for a few that advanced auto has.
Im keeping it real basic and only doing a few things to get my scoot running reliable and maybe a little safer ie more low end torque, fix the running lights and mounting the turn signals up higher.
I appreciate everyones help. I too take time out of my day at a few web forums and pass down knowledge to others. Gotta give to take i guess.
I also would like to network with other scooter enthusiasts in the Clearwater Tampa Bay Florida area in hopes of maybe a scooter get together or something.

I have a 2011 4 stroke 50cc gmw that i am buying a 100cc bbk from ebay for. The dealers on ebay want to know if i need 64 or 69mm valves. Can i determine the size of my current engine valves by measuring the distance between the tappets? This is what ebay wants to know correct? The size of valves on my current engine right?
Thx
Is there someplace on my engine case that would have a number i could reference to find out what size valves i have?
Would i have better luck calling up some gmw dealerships in my area?
