So what is it? An energy drink? A microphone? and what does it have to do with scooters? The UE Boom is a blue tooth speaker system about the same size and form factor as a monster energy drink but, don't let this fool you. This thing is loud and the sound quality, while it's never going to replace a huge hi fi system, is amazing. And while there are many blue tooth speaker systems out there, what makes this one unique is you can pair it with an additional UE Boom and get a true stereo image via smart phone app. While bass response on a unit this size is a challenge, it does surprisingly well. What makes it of interest for us who ride scooters is the mounting options it has. The most usufull for scooter riders is the 1/4 20 threaded mount on the bottom of the unit. This feature makes it really easy to mount to a bike with something as simple as a Pedco Ultra Clamp. These clamps are used for mounting camera's to poles, open car windows and about any other place you can think of, including scooter handlebars, and grab bars. Mounting a single UE Boom to the grab bar on the back of my 250 scooter, I have good sound to speeds of 40MPH or so and that's only because the wind noise in my cheap helmet drowns it out. Mounting it to the handlebars, behind the windshield, I was able to hear it well to about 50mph ( Did I mention this thing is loud ). I can only imagine how loud it would be with a second one. My other idea is to put it in my backpack and see if I can hear it better. As it is, it sounds much better then % of the scooter sound systems I've heard. Stopped at a park, it does really well of course. You will have no problems hearing it or you can simply take it off the bike and bring it with you. The unit is water resistant and shock proof. Battery life is ~15 hours at 1/2 volume (loud enough to be uncomfortable if inside). Charging is done via USB port and pairing it with multiple devices is simple. Once paired with a smart phone or iPod, the volume control on the device controls the volume of the unit. On my iPod, I even get a battery meter on the phone to tell me how much charge the unit still has. The only real drawback of the unit is, it's a bit pricey. MSRP is 199.99 but you can find it on Amazon for 189.99. Pedco ultra clamps go for under 30 bucks. The two together are pretty priceless.

Yeah, the wiring is almost always a mess on these bikes. I think it's the biggest difference between the chinese bikes and the jap bikes. And the holes they cut to pass wires thru. Don't even get me started. Mine looked like they employeed a rat to chew the holes thru the body to pass the wires thru.
Thank you for the kind words Alley. Yes it takes time to take pictures but I think they are worth it. I just wish I had a few more pics of the scooter when I got it home.

It is what it is.... I'm very happy with it so far... Just a few things you end up addressing and fine tuning when you get them back on the road. I'm just out of money at the moment, so a few things are going to have to wait.

Well, it's road worthy, well almost. I actually have been riding the bike. I love how smooth it runs but I still have a few issues I need to work out. I broke a speedometer cable, the blue LED's I installed in the dash make it to where you can't see the needles on the gauges AND, I probably will need to change out the master cylinder for the rear brake. Not because it has failed hydraulically, but because I can't get it to hold the brake switch properly so I have brake lights on all the time. I also had one of the cheesy speaker fall into the nose. The trim ring that holds it in place broke. Horn decided not to work. I think it came unplugged from the horn it's self when I was putting on the nose. The temp gauge is also acting up a bit. The fan works fine, but the temp gauge flutters. The bike looks very sharp and I put the bags that came with the bike back on. I love these soft bags... ------------- > Click here for Build Blog

The thing to remember is that port size, placement and shape work like a cam on a four stroke. It's going to control duration, and timing for intake and exhaust scavenging. The piston has to work with the ports since it's like the valves on a four stroke. The piston opens and closes those ports. A lot of the work done with the head and cam on a four stroke is done with the piston and cylinder ports. 2 strokes are simple and complex at the same time!...

I've had hit or miss luck from amazon. I buy a lot from scrappy's because they ship so fast... Case and example, I ordered some brake switches for my 250... Here in three days... I ordered my tail light assembly from another source on the 1st... it's still not here... It shipped a weeks ago... One of the last big pieces for my 250. I would of ordered that part from scrappy if they had it in stock. Absolutely scooters is pretty quick too just a bit more pricey.
I know the carb at scrappy's is a good unit, altho the jetting is probably not going to be correct for your bike.. I've used that unit before with good results.

Scrappy has the carb for 75 bucks. Look under cf250 172mm helix parts. It's the same engine. Also, while you are doing the carb, it's a good time to replace the intake manifold....
Before you put those plastics back on, change the plug, check all the coolant hoses and adjust the valves. Valve adjustments on this engine are really easy, especially with the plastics off.

I can't remember, are the mounting ears on the center section of the case or the right case side?

I actually just ordered a new carb last night. Might as well just so I don't have to worry about it. Mine is under the hump with what appears to be an electric fuel pump. Tonight I'm cleaning up the frame and the wiring along with removing the security system and the radio (that I didn't know about it had 2 speakers hanging behind the panel in the front. Also going to remove the wheels for plasti-dipping and I got my new rotors, new variator, new clutch, and new gates belt in the mail today. Also purchased all the stuff to paint it using your concept (much appreciated). Also going to smoke the tail lenses and blinkers tonight! Another idea I had from being behind a car tht had done this. I bought some adhesive led strips in red and I'm going to wire them in with the tail light and brake like and put them around the rear light for added visibility! I'm actually very happy you bought one... I went digging thru my junk and the parts you need were missing from the carb I had. I'm actually gonna buy a new carb for mine... The acv valve is got a serious vacuum leak and I had to plug it off to get it to run 1/2 way right. If you are gonna chuck the speakers, I'd be interested... are they those cheesy 2" speakers? I actually replaced the stereo on mine and one of the speakers fell apart. The trim ring broke so nothing will hold it... it's just rattling around in the nose now... I wish there was just a little more room for a set of 4" speakers. I actually don't use the stereo while riding, but I do like having it for when I'm stopped somewhere. Doesn't seem to draw the battery down much either.

Get the 842. Buy a Gates belt. They are only arond 30 bucks and are pretty much the best best for your application. I only use Gates in my rides and it's one of the first things I do when I buy a new scooter/used scooter. That and tire valve stems.
Every bike gets a small socket set, screw drivers is a knief, then you can handle most stupid things on the side of the road. Alot of guys carry an extra belt (wire tied to the frame), a cdi and coil. I don't bother with those. I'm just equiped for a loose bolt, or vac line/fuel lilne problem.
