I say pull the spark plug wire off and see if it cranks better.

Just about every motorcycle class tells you to use your full lane, and to keep your distance from other vehicles. If the rider had been in the left part of the passing lane he might have had a chance to dodge. The drivers timing was perfect, the rider never had a chance. That old man was cold and calculating. In a non road rage/spiteful situation I would agree with you. John

I have been curious how john "tests" all his products. Maybe a cdi or coil, but how do you 'test' a variator, or a piston and cylinders? Install it and run it? doesn't that make it used? and if so, aren't all used parts therefore tested? Sure Cato some items are tricky, if you would like to call a tested electrical part used. Your welcome too, the mechanical parts are inspected and sold. Items like variators is visual and feedback based testing . I use the variator, I rebuild engines with the engine kits I sell. Some items like carbs I'm not going to install, however if I was asked I would. Certain items come from the same factories and have proven to be a good product. John

Here in NYC stuff like this is goes on all day long. I have thought to carry a 2x4 and follow these people. When they get out of there car charge them and see how they react. Even when a cager squeezes me I smack the car. In most cases they get the hint.
The friend of that rider should have been some what more aggressive toward the old man. If it would have been me the old man would have soiled his depends and needed to visit the dentist.

if the engine a stator with a feed for ac cdi , you will need cdi coil carb and kick start lever. Pull a wire off the coil to stall it out.

I would overhaul the clutch, bite the bullet and get the tools to take the clutch completely apart. Clean out the old grease use fresh hi temp bearing grease. Lube all the pivot points and the pulley sheaths. Recheck the variator rollers and slides check for binding.

OK so its not the cdi, give the coil a try.
Being that you have two scooters having spare ignition parts on hand would be a good idea. If you have a stock Chinese spark plug I would get rid of it.

Take and post pictures of all the parts. Start with what was in the scooter to start with and then what you put in it.
