I just put a 52mm BBK, and new crank in. Was running great. I got a performance variator on the cheap off of ebay a while ago, when I put in a 50mm BBK. Was running 7g weights, but upped them to 8g with the 52mm cylinder.
Anyways, the other morning, it sheared the rails right off of that variator. Any recommendations on a variator that can handle all this power, without having to spend $150?

And John inspects and test his products, something you don't find with most parts dealers!
Scrappy's is good, but if I had known John better back then, I would have chosen his. I just happen to live 15 minutes from Scrappy's, so they get a lot of my business due to convenience.

The scooter dealership near my house sells those for $30, they are pretty good but I still switch out the weights and experiment since the different ramp angles give you different results from the stock variators you may find use of heavier or lighter weights to be better depending on your riding style and conditions like hills and stuff.
For me I found use of 7.5g weights over the 8g they came with to be better, gets me up hills a little faster and takes off faster, plus the ramp angles make it so I can still achieve around 55mph with my 50mmBBK.

I have been curious how john "tests" all his products. Maybe a cdi or coil, but how do you 'test' a variator, or a piston and cylinders? Install it and run it? doesn't that make it used? and if so, aren't all used parts therefore tested?

Your welcome too, the mechanical parts are inspected and sold. Items like variators is visual and feedback based testing . I use the variator, I rebuild engines with the engine kits I sell. Some items like carbs I'm not going to install, however if I was asked I would. Certain items come from the same factories and have proven to be a good product. John
