I think it definitely looks cool, but I haven't really heard much one way or the other regarding these things. People always seem to have trouble getting the tach or speedo to work. Sorry I can't help you, but these are the things I've read here and elsewhere. Good luck!

I will be detailing the entire life of this TaoTao Powermax 150 scooter which was ordered from Killer Motorsports on 8/18/2014 and received on 8/27/2014. It was shipped via R+L Carriers.Today I birthed a brand new TaoTao Powermax 150 scooter into the world from its cardboard and metal womb. Box was beat to and back in a few spots and the metal crate which protects the scoot had a gigantic dent in the bottom part of the frame on the right side. The scooter was unharmed, so I guess it did its job. Here is a video from mid-unboxing:
Assembly was relatively easy, however, for the love of god, PLEASE get yourself a helper and save yourself much swearing and sweat and blood attempting to get the front wheel, speedo puck, and spacer all aligned to bolt it in by yourself. I've not faced a greater challenge in my LIFE.
I would have started her up and let her purr for a bit but one thing really befuddled me:
What is the second red wire with the fuse box(?) attached to it? Is it a second wire that must be attached to the positive end or is it supposed to be grounded? I didn't want to destroy my entire electrical system before I ever ride it so I'm turning to you folks first. Also, is it positive then negative when connecting, or negative then positive?
So far so good. I love the way it looks and it's very very comfortable for me at 5'7". I'll keep you all posted. If you're interested in seeing my entire unboxing/assembly album which has some detail shots, check out this link: TaoTao Powermax 150 Uncrating & Assembly
Update (9/5/2014): I had a problem with a mystery hose during PDI that didn't seem to attach anywhere. You can read the entire problem discussion HERE. It turned out to be part of my emissions system and does not connect, it is meant to breathe fresh air.
Update (9/7/2014): I suddenly had an issue with my wheel spinning wildly at idle after a ride around town. The issue is detailed in THIS THREAD and I believe it to have been solved by a valve adjustment.

Will do, Jarlaxle! I'd hate to have to be THAT guy every time something blows on me. I'll be posting an unboxing video at some point later on today or earlyish tomorrow. It's like Christmas morning for me.

Thanks again my brotha. I will definitely look in to some type of windshield at some point. Just spoke to the shipper and delivery is scheduled to my door between 1pm and 5pm tomorrow afternoon/evening. May the scooter gods be looking down upon me favorably and the box not be a disaster inside.

seamus26 thanks for the suggestions! I do plan on getting a full set of gear before I'm street legal, helmet & gloves are on the way and I'll be ordering my armored jacket and boots in a couple days as well. This will all come in handy since I plan to bump up to a either a bigger scooter or motorcycle next season anyway. Is there anything special to look for in windshields? Do you have a particular one that you like?

So I expect to have the scooter on Wednesday, which fits right in to the time estimate given to me when I ordered. That makes me a happy camper. Today I purchased my first round of upgrades to some essential parts with more to come in the next few weeks and a few tools I needed that I didn't have. This order should arrive on Thursday and includes:
Black & Decker BM3B 6V and 12V Battery Charger / Maintainer Grizzly G9616 Feeler-Gauge Set, 32-Piece 8 Oz. Rubber Mallet A 200-piece set of TEKTON cable ties in assorted colors Raider 716B-5 3/16" 5' Roll of Fuel/Vacuum Line NGK (7544) CR7HIX Iridium IX Spark Plug A "High Performance Racing Ignition Coil" Briggs & Stratton 698183 In-Line Fuel Shut-Off Valve Permatex 80050 Clear RTV Silicone Adhesive Sealant (for electrical connections)
Future plans include a new CDI, a higher quality stator, new CVT belt, upgraded tires & stems, and a new carb.
I'm open to any other suggestions some of you vets can provide. I'm a sponge and I love to read all of you guys' different theories and sciences on scooter maintenance and tuning.

And now..... the anticipation!! As the Tom Petty song says, the waiting is, in fact, the hardest part. Still waiting on my tracking number from Killer, although I just filled out the form request for one today. No new updates to report other than that as of yet. Next week surely can't get here fast enough.

Thanks bvance554! As for oldchopperguy and his stories - they're half of what I love about this forum on their own, lol. Scary situation no doubt, Leo, but always good to hear when the hand of fate was there to say "not today." AND that's a good motivator for one to always wear a bucket!

I should probably mention how everything has been so far today after placing my order early this morning. I received an e-mail around 11am Eastern ( Killer Motorsports is based in TX for those that may not know, in the Central time zone) from a member of their staff informing me that they were having issues with the online order form sending the actual inventory request through - but that they received my payment. I was given a number to call and then spoke to Steve who took all the information regarding my scoot and order. I was quoted with a week and a half delivery time which I hope becomes a case of under-selling and over-delivering. Around 1:30 my time I received a voicemail about having not gotten my color requests written down, d'oh! I called back and this time spoke to Scott as Steve had apparently gone out for lunch, but Scott took down my info and colors and let me know exactly how many of each they had at the distribution center. Great, friendly guy on the phone - Steve too. I had previously spoken to Scott weeks ago when I was first looking at ordering from them under the guise of knowing nothing about the scooters just to see if he would BS me but he didn't which earned them my trust in the first place. So far, so good. No problem getting a hold of anyone at the business today and I don't feel like I've made a bad decision. Hopefully it stays that way! P.S. oldchopperguy - No worries on the cold weather storage, I've got a nice sized (SECURE!!) finished porch that it will sit nicely in during the weeks/months where it really is just too darn cold to ride ( but will give me lots of time to tinker ).
