I will be detailing the entire life of this TaoTao Powermax 150 scooter which was ordered from Killer Motorsports on 8/18/2014 and received on 8/27/2014. It was shipped via R+L Carriers.Today I birthed a brand new TaoTao Powermax 150 scooter into the world from its cardboard and metal womb. Box was beat to and back in a few spots and the metal crate which protects the scoot had a gigantic dent in the bottom part of the frame on the right side. The scooter was unharmed, so I guess it did its job. Here is a video from mid-unboxing:
Assembly was relatively easy, however, for the love of god, PLEASE get yourself a helper and save yourself much swearing and sweat and blood attempting to get the front wheel, speedo puck, and spacer all aligned to bolt it in by yourself. I've not faced a greater challenge in my LIFE.
I would have started her up and let her purr for a bit but one thing really befuddled me:
What is the second red wire with the fuse box(?) attached to it? Is it a second wire that must be attached to the positive end or is it supposed to be grounded? I didn't want to destroy my entire electrical system before I ever ride it so I'm turning to you folks first. Also, is it positive then negative when connecting, or negative then positive?
So far so good. I love the way it looks and it's very very comfortable for me at 5'7". I'll keep you all posted. If you're interested in seeing my entire unboxing/assembly album which has some detail shots, check out this link: TaoTao Powermax 150 Uncrating & Assembly
Update (9/5/2014): I had a problem with a mystery hose during PDI that didn't seem to attach anywhere. You can read the entire problem discussion HERE. It turned out to be part of my emissions system and does not connect, it is meant to breathe fresh air.
Update (9/7/2014): I suddenly had an issue with my wheel spinning wildly at idle after a ride around town. The issue is detailed in THIS THREAD and I believe it to have been solved by a valve adjustment.

Both the large and small red wires go to the positive post. The green wire goes to the negative post. When hooking up a battery do the positive first and negative last. That way if you accidently ground your tool you will not get any sparks. Do the opposite when unhooking a battery.

Electrical is all good. Do need to replace my high beam though, no light out of the big one, only the lower running light.

Change out the oil before driving too far.

No doubt ghcoe - full valve adjustment, motor & gear oil changes are in the works before I ever ride it around...and it looks like I'll be waiting til after the weekend to take care of all of that.

Captaincrunnk,
THAT is one DOGGONE-good-looking scoot! (Thank God for the metal shipping cage...)
It DOES appear the build-quality is getting MUCH better these days! I hope it RUNS as good as it LOOKS... If so, you'll be a happy camper!
Keep us posted, and ENJOY!

Electrical is all good. Do need to replace my high beam though, no light out of the big one, only the lower running light. The headlight won't come on until the engine is running. It is not fed from the battery. It gets it's power from the stator.

Hey thanks gatekeeper! I hadn't even considered that! Tomorrow is start-up day. I look forward to seeing how it runs. I'll be back with another video and some more pictures detailing my part swaps tomorrow evening. Only time will tell oldchopperguy.

Everything has been cake so far and hopefully it STAYS that way, haha. By far the best part is how much my girlfriend enjoys riding and driving it. She's really in to it and that's great, in part, because my future two-wheeled purchases should be no problem .
