My dad bought me a cordless impact from, I think, Harbor Freight. It's junk, I felt bad about it, too. I asked for it for my bday, or Christmas. Maybe it was defective, but it barely took the CVT bolts off.

No store, online or not, is perfect. Everywhere I shop I've had an issue at some point. To me, the places that stand out are the ones that, when there is a problem, they take care of it the best that they can. Those are the places that get my money.

With CVT cover off I put my finger on the end of the bendix and hit the starter. and, no, I didn't hear any noise out of the clutch or variator areas. as for riding with the CVT cover off I wouldn't advise it. Besides, I didn't need the engine on anyway. You can hear it only at a walking speed or slower. Thanx for the thought, though now I know it's not the Tq spring binding. Darren You said you only heard the noise when there is a load on the scooter. Yes you can put your finger on the bendix and start it with the cover off-- but with the cover off and the bendix still in, it's much, much harder to have a load on the scoot and go while your finger is still on, or without something holding the bendix after it's started. As for riding without the cover on, it shouldn't hurt to go 30 feet one way and back--- unless you're overly worried about a pebble or two getting inside the case. I wouldn't recommend riding very far without the cover on, but during troubleshooting like this, I'd take the risk for a very, very short trip with it off---if I couldn't determine where the sound was coming from.

Put a brand new front brake caliper on with new pads--- love it. Changed the oil last week, put a new spark plug boot on---it was junk. I ordered the "V" sliders/guides for the variator---saw a crack in one of them, and ordered 2 sets to have a backup. Probably will order a new belt soon. It's been an interesting last few months. Crank/Top end rebuild, New front handlebar panel--not cheap unless you want BLACK, New rollers, new front brake caliper, changed the oil a few times, I have the "V" sliders/guides, as said above, one the way. Hmmmm what else. Brake fluid was changed and bled---had to bleed it again tonight/yesterday after changing the caliper. I will do that at least once a year from now on. Oh, I changed a lot of the electrical connection pieces to better, newer ones. My scoot is pretty happy right now, and I'm thankful for it. I've come a long way, and I credit these forums--- VERY thankful for the info online. Priceless.

Question how can you ride with the cvt cover off . I tried to start mine once with the cvt cover off it started fine and ran for a few seconds then the starter gear fell out . Quickly shut it off and all was ok no teeth hurt just a few scratches on the started gear outer bushing cover . If you have a kickstarter, take the cover off and bendix out first, then put the cover back on and kickstart it, then take cover off.

Since you said you replaced your starter, I'd check your connections at the starter, solenoid, back to the battery ----follow and check all the wires and make sure everything is connected properly.

When you jumped the solenoid, did the starter turn?

You could ride it without the CVT cover on, and if it's the clutch area it should sound different since there is no cover.
