Ran outta gas, LOL! Only had to push it a few blocks, but still enough to have sweat rolling off of you. One of these days I'll fix my gas gauge. Up to no good today: Popped out the clutch shafts out of both cases. Cleaned the gearboxes out of all the oil, sick of my garage smelling like gear oil!!

I get that--- usually not from the gearbox though
Is it necessary to re-torque our case and head bolts over time?

The stock gears were 51/15.

Well the 17/49 are taller than the 16/50 by 1 tooth on each so little more mph if you scoot can pull them. I think I might be just a tad shy of taking full advantage of them. I want to try the 7g and see how that is. I really don't want to beef up my engine anymore than it really is-- I think the main thing I have going for me is my body weight. I only have a 72cc(80 some call it...) with a stock airbox without the snorkel, and a 78 main jet. I do have another carb that I thought about jetting in the - -90ish range and putting a uni or K&N filter on, and just swapping that setup out on days that I feel like it. It'd only take a couple of minutes. I like to ride my scooter to work-- which could be 80 miles a week for just work, at basically full throttle. My scoot takes a beating as is. Another reason why my engines don't last 15-20 thousand miles. Who knows what RPM's I'm at, or was at, during all 41,000 on the odometer of thing (different engines/cranks of course). On a side note, I'm ordering a Tach tonight.

That makes sense.
I had better top speed with the 7.7g rollers, I got to almost 46mph with the 8.5g (with headwind and tailwind), but both rollers are obviously running at top speeds with lower RPM's.
I think I'll try 7g for sure, maybe get 6.5g, too.
Here's the deal though. A parts site has no business sending out 49/17 gears when it clearly says, and ONLY says, 50/16. There was no accident--- they "just don't carry the 50/16 anymore", because "China blah blah blah". When something like this happens-- change your website information! Real simple! You contact a customer when something of this nature happens before sending it out. For example (and example only--didn't happen to me), if someone orders 6.5g rollers and you don't have them--- you don't ship out 6g or 7g without the customers approval. (I just have a hard time trusting what I'm getting--- which is why I always weigh rollers when I receive them)
Now I'll always have these gears now and that's by choice-- I could have sent them back. I still want to try the 50/16 in the near future.

Actually both gears are different sizes.
Anyway, I hit 49.2 mph with them-- with the 7.7g rollers. Gonna try the 8.5 when I get home.

The 17 looks bigger than my 16.

Well, they sent me 49/17, so it looks like I'll be making a trip to the post office instead!

You just want to take note of where each bolt goes, because a couple of them (1 or 2 if I recall correctly) are different lengths. It'll save you some frustration.
I like to draw circles on a piece of cardboard and poke holes in what would be the same pattern as they are on the engine---and put the bolts in the holes. That way I know exactly where each bolt goes.

I'll be getting the gears tomorrow- they just left Indianapolis at 9:28pm.
So tomorrow, when the mail comes or after I roll out of bed, I'll be heading to the machine shop in town. They're calling for scattered showers/storms so hopefully there are no delays. No big deal, rain like that is always better than a wall of rain for 2 hours straight, or longer.
Ready to get this done. So hopefully the rollers I have will do the job. I have a gut feeling I"m going to need to drop down a gram or so. I wish I knew because I'm thinking of putting another order in tonight, but I may just wait until tomorrow--- but the weekend is coming up so that sucks with the mail situation.

Is it a 50cc?
I must not have a life either, this forum is usually in 1st position for the website I most frequently visit--- when I launch Chrome. I check this forum at work all the time (on my phone). Lol.
Weather up here in northern Indiana has been pretty good--- the last few nights it got chilly at night. Tonight, on the way home from work, was awesome.

I guess I'll go .005 in and .006 out? I know there is no set standard among scooterists for the gap settings, but that just seems like it would be way too loose. I'm not saying a 50cc won't run that way, but I just can't wrap my head around as to why or how .004 and .005 would be too tight.

Let us know what you think after installing them. I most certainly will.

Engine pivot bushings are worn on the pivot bolt has come loose and is missing the nut that holds it tight. The bike should not be ridden like that since it is an accident waiting to happen. You don't want that pivot bolt to snap at 55 mph so that you lose the engine with the rear wheel while you moving. Lol, that was my pic not his. I wasn't missing the nut, that was after I took it off the my scooter a few years ago. Basically for picture purposes only. My engine hanger goes in between each side of the frame(on my scoot), and the bolt goes through one side of the frame, then the hanger, then finally out to the other side of the frame--- where the nut goes on.

Yes, they look like these(the exact ones I ordered): www.partsforscooters.com/164-97?sc=9&category=371I'm not sure if your bolt is bent or not, mine wasn't. P.S...and I hit "create post" because a box saying "your video will be here" showed up in the "preview", and I tried about 5 times. So I simply edited the post. I haven't seen a "delete post" button.
