I like the 1500 contra spring it seems to do a better job on holding rpms up on hills, I suggest a 1.5k spring koso variator and 8 or 9 gram sliders depending on what you weigh. That set up has done me good on many scoots, changing the gears will give a higher top speed but will slow you down on hills, if your fine with your top speed leave the gears stock. millsc....thank you for the reply...I weigh in at 200..... I appreciate your suggestions....I had started a shopping cart prior to this post with a KOSO variator, 5 gram Koso sliders, and 1000 rpm clutch springs....looks like I should up the sliders to say...8 maybe, clutch springs to 1500, and add a 1500 rpm contra spring in your opinion....

The only thing I have really done to the 50cc scooter is to put a 50mm BBK kit in....replaced the jet with the one from the kit (unmarked and unknown size), replaced the CDI and coil wire with the ones from the kit, and the rollers (unknown weight) from the kit.... New Gates belt too. Runs really good...big improvement over what I had in the beginning... still stock intake...stock exhaust.... This year I would like to replace the variator with a KOSO performance variator and slider weights...seems 5g are pretty popular. Would consider changing the clutch springs or contra spring to a 1000 if it would help any with holding rpms on the hills. I live in a hilly area but by no means mountainous. I really try to read as much as I can and really don't have the extra cash to experiment as much as some of you guys so I thought I would tap into your experience. When my speed gets to 40 I think the rpms are at it's peak....I get a weird sound and things don't seem right. That is why I want to change up the drive train....soooo any advice on what will work best in my case??? Or maybe changing the gears.....

Carasdad...everything is still hooked up...with the exception of the black wire with the end that looks like it should be grounded to a bolt.... My guess the wire that is just hanging there is the antenna... Might try looking for threads on jumping it and removing it...

The alarm....ok...never thought of that....thanks....could be the remote starter and stuff....maybe the one wire is an antenna then.

I have my panels off doing some winter painting...the pink has to go....and there are some electrical components up front I need help with....one is a black box and the other is round (not the horn)....the black box has two wires that are not connected to anything...or at least not since I removed the panels. They were stuck to the plastic front piece...I plan on wire tying them to the steering column....what are they?? What of the two wires???

Check Autozone....they sometimes rent tools for free....seems odd but they do. You have to pay up front then you get your money back. Maybe they have impact drivers....

Looks to me that the muffler in the OP's ebay link may not have an odd bend in the header. I think that is the angle of the photograph. Now whether it is suitable for a BBK option I don't know.....not a bad price....

I ordered a gates powerlink belt...nothing else looked out of sorts. Clutch shaft was tight up and down...in and out....I did not open the gearbox...but I did change the gear oil....we will see when the belt arrives...

The battery was giving out in the laptop and my post was scrambled to beat heck....I reposted it.....
Going to try and sum all this up a bit......I really haven't put too many miles on the scooter....got it with 350 on it and it has about 700 on it now, I only had the variator off once....to put heavier rollers in it during the BBK install. The variator was pretty straight forward.....bolt off....face came off...one spacer......then the variator......pulled the rollers and put new in and back together.....are those little plastic things referred to as guides?? The noise/vibration was there since I got this bike. I kinda figured that they were just built that way until I rode a friends scooter... I did change the gear oil when I got the scooter....I'll drain it and refill it... The belt was this loose when I opened up the case to begin with.....I questioned it when reading about the tightness in another "popular" thread. There are no grooves in either the variator face or the clutch and it looks like the belt rides maybe 3-4 mm from the edge of the variator... Not comfortable running this thing with the cover off. I tried to start it the last time and the starter gear needs the support of the cover....I can see that flying off and.....well....not happening.... Balancing the tires,,,,these are 10 inch wheels...pretty small....could easily be out of balance....they are turning super fast....might have to look into this....
Thanks for the advice......
