Like Jersey said....carb cleaning with special attention to the main jet....could try adjusting the needle... But if you think about buying a carb kit....look at new carb prices first... I had a similar problem....was after I got a carb kit and the needle was a little different....put the old needle in and ran.....

I don't know about the starter solenoid on these scooters but there should be a 3rd terminal to close the contacts inside the relay.....a 12 volt wire there will close those contacts and eliminate the sparking.....
Too late....

Why not just start with the BBK and see what that Kymco will do.....probably a bit higher quality drivetrain etc. than a typical scoot from Twi Kain Shjeng China or there bouts.... Then go from there..... Might be surprised.....

Today I felt something a little odd when riding and heard a sound that was odd....the scoot kept running... Got to where I was and when I tried to start the bike the starter didn't engage... Figured the starter bendix was the culprit. Got the bike home and looked inside the variator cover....found a thick wire laying in there and at first though a clutch spring somehow let go but all three were on the clutch. At a loss here.... Oh yeah...the wire bouncing around in there ht the bendix and bent the spring cover...I took it apart and tapped the dent out of the cover....good to go....

From this....... To this...... I have had this scooter for about 3 years...just getting to trust it a bit now....got it in Harrisburg.....was stolen and recovered by the owner....so far this is what has been changed..... Gravity fuel feed - vacuum pumps suck in my opinion!! (free from garage parts) 50mm BBK - included cdi, coil wire, and main jet (size unknown) (60 bucks...cheapo ebay) KOSO variator (21 bucks direct from China) KOSO 8 gram sliders (18 bucks) 1500 rpm contra spring (12 bucks from China) Ignition switch...old one ruined in the theft (35 bucks) Gates belt (20 bucks) Paint (15 bucks) Thanks to all who contribute and moderate.....you have helped turn this bike from an almost useless scooter to a pretty fun ride!!!!

How do you hold the clutch to get the big clutch nut (inner one) to the right torque before you reinstall it on a scooter? if you're talking about this nut: set it on the floor and sit in a chair, using your feet to compress the spring then you can easily put the nut back on and tighten. i use an adjustable wrench to tighten and loosen like in the first vid instead of a vise. This way works great....

Does using the firmer contra spring create a lot of heat in the CVT area....read about cutting some ventilation holes in the cover....think it is needed??? I felt the cover a couple times last year and it gets pretty hot. Found a pretty good video on how to remove the big clutch nut using a large adjustable wrench and tapping the handle on the floor while holding the assembly in your hand. Pretty sweet....had it loosened up and apart in less than a minute. Saw another Youtube on cleaning up the assembly. Video for everything on there....

OK...I feel pretty good about what I am getting out of this scooter now....the new Koso variator and 8 gram sliders coupled with the 1500 contra spring are keeping the engine at a good rpm on the hills and the top end is right there at 42 on the chinometer....thanks for the input...

Like they said, anything you do to try to get more top speed will hurt your acceleration. 40mph is about all your going to get out of a gy6 50cc no matter what you do, trying to get that extra 1 or 2mph isn't worth it. It probably sounds funny at that speed because your rpms are maxed out and it's out of its prime power range. Before you go dumping lots of money into a 50cc, consider getting a 150cc. I'm hoping to smooth things out a bit...I rode a Kymco scooter and it was so smooth running...mine has a lot of vibration in the drive train. The new Gates belt helped a lot. thought maybe a variator might help more. Besides...it is fun to buy little parts and put them on...whether they help or not.
