Hi,
I have a SYM 125cc scooter ( model name is duke), and recently i noticed that the fuel consumption slightly increased. I was used to around 71 mpg, and now i'm getting only around 60 mpg.
Checked the air filter and it was dirty so i replaced it, but no change with the fuel consumption. Different spark plug, also didn't help. I added a fuel threatment additive, still no change. The valves are also at the correct gap.
I tried to readjust the air/fuel mixture screw, but no luck there. same fuel consumption.
Now, my scooter have an high mileage on it (67,000 miles). I'm sure there is a loss of compression, although i don't feel that it have less power. Can it be just that?
Can it be dirt inside the carburetor?
Any ideas are welcome.
Thank you.

Hi,
I have a 125cc scooter, and i purchased an NGK sparkplug for it. The one that i purchased is C7HSA and the one in the scooter is CR7HSA.
From what i read, i understand that the "R" is for "Resistor Type" . Does it make any difference if it has a resistor or not?
Thank you.

I did some testing today. All the tests were with the new R/R . (Btw on the package it says "made in taiwan") I installed the old Lead Acid battery back in the scooter, and i started it with the kick starter because the battery don't have enough power to start the engine, although the voltage of the battery is 12.5V . Immediately after the engine started i measured the charging voltage, and i got 14.3v and up to 14.54 when rev up the engine.
Now, i installed again the Lifepo4 battery (which have 13.2v on rest), and i started the scooter, and the charging voltage i get is 13.3v to 13.35v when rev up the engine.
Are these Lifepo4 cells work different with the charging voltage?

My scooter is made by SYM, and i purchased a genuine R/R . (which is actually cost just a little more than a none genuine). So it supposed to be at SYM specification.
It can't be a problem with the stator, right?

Hi,
Thank you for the quick reply. I had this even when the battery was new (Lead Acid type) . Although i think the voltage reached up to 14.3v when rev up the engine. But it also took a few minutes to get to 14v charging voltage.
Now, i replaced the battery to a Lifepo4 type, which have a voltage of 13.2v when scooter is off. Even after a 30 minutes ride, the charging voltage is still around 13.5v when rev up the engine. Is 13.5v is enough?
Thank you.

Hi,
I have a problem when the scooter is cold, and i start it, the charging voltage is almost the battery voltage when scooter is off. after about a minute, it's starting to raise to around 13.5v (when rev up the engine). I thought maybe the R/R is not good so i replaced it, but still the same.
What else can i check?
Thank you.

Hi, Yes, i can turn the needle by hand and it's very smoothly. the needle also return back to zero smoothly. I don't know if you can see it in the video, but the outer circular case is spinning not round. I tried to apply some white grease on the gears (after cleanning the old grease), but it didn't help much. I can try and disassemble the assembly to get to the magnets, but i don't know how. Do i need to take off the needle (isn't it going to cause the tension spring to go out of calibration?), or do i need to disassemble it from bottom where the speedo cable connects to? Here are some pictures: Thank you.

Hi,
Thank you for the reply. I have a SYM scooter, and their speedometer for this scooter is a bit pricey.
I actually took it apart yesterday, and i also took some pictures which i'll upload later. I also made a video with the speedometer connected to the scooter, and i turned the wheel by hand. you can see as the speedometer is slowing down it is getting a little stuck. I don't know if it supposed to be like that or not.
Thank you.

Hi,
I'm having a strange problem with the speedometer. For a while the needle was wobbling at lower speed, so i took out the speedo cable (the inner cable), and i cleaned it with brake cleanning fluid, and then i lubricated it with grease. That didn't solve the problem. I also checked the speedometer gear at the front wheel and it's spinning ok.
A few days ago, the speedometer needle started to jump all over the place. When i'm maybe at 50 Km/h it's showing 100. It even went all over to the end of the scale. The needle also sometimes get stuck at certain speed when the scooter is stopped. Sometimes the needle is showing the correct speed (although it wobble).
With all that the odometer is working without a problem. I guess there is a problem inside the speedometer itself, is it possible to fix it? (a new speedometer is over 100$) What can get wrong inside?
Many Thanks.

Hi,
Sorry, i meant what is the max Amp Burst for a 125cc starter? Which mean, what is the max amps that the starter will draw in those few seconds when you start the scooter?
I need connectors for the Lifepo4 battery, and i need to choose ones that can handle the Amp Burst of the starter.
Thank you.
