Hi,
I have a SYM 125cc scooter ( model name is duke), and recently i noticed that the fuel consumption slightly increased. I was used to around 71 mpg, and now i'm getting only around 60 mpg.
Checked the air filter and it was dirty so i replaced it, but no change with the fuel consumption. Different spark plug, also didn't help. I added a fuel threatment additive, still no change. The valves are also at the correct gap.
I tried to readjust the air/fuel mixture screw, but no luck there. same fuel consumption.
Now, my scooter have an high mileage on it (67,000 miles). I'm sure there is a loss of compression, although i don't feel that it have less power. Can it be just that?
Can it be dirt inside the carburetor?
Any ideas are welcome.
Thank you.

howdy, the 71 mpg is reasonable though a bit low but the 60mpg is certainly low. i'm not the tech expert and mostly responding so you know your post is being read. I would , however, suggest that the problem could well be that the drive belt is slipping. has your top speed lowered?
lotsa miles and smiles to ya ken

If the motor lost some compression that means less power at same rpms as when it had less mileage and has to work harder to move the scoot which means using more gas. I am sure you feel it has not lost power but I would bet it has to compensate I am sure your running at higher rpms. Alleyoop

SYMs are high...I ride one. The 125 is going to be about 170 PSI. Go to Auto Zone...they will usually loan you a tester. The finger thing does NOT work. Make sure the adapter doesn't go too far down in the jug...ow. I bet it's the compression. Rich

I went from around 80 mpg to about 60 mpg , I'm sure it's because of the 32mm carb with the 125 main jet . The 125 main jet would prob never work with my setup if I used a smaller carb . I doubt It would pull enough air to keep me from running to rich.

Check your valves also.
