Hi,
I noticed recently a rattle / knocking noise that seems to come from behind the cooling fan. I can only hear it at idle. Once you accelerate it sounds ok, and runs smoothly.
I'm sure it's not the roller weights that rattle.
I read that some people had problems with the starter clutch, which caused a rattle noise. Does the needle bearing inside the starter clutch can make that noise when it's failing?
What about the connecting rod bearing? If that's the cause, is it supposed to make rattle / knocking also when you accelerate?
Thank you.

First and easiest, check to see if the pickup coil is hitting the magneto, if not then you do get some odd sounds out of a starter clutch going bad. Get the Ban Jing if you need to replace it, then its your last one for good. Theyre only 39.99

I uploaded a video of the engine noise.
Just wanted to mention that i did check the valves clearance, and it's ok at 0.12mm ( around .005").

I recently had a similar problem, and ultimately it was my starter clutch that was going bad [and it ended up dying completely and i had to push the bike 2 miles home...fun times]. If the noise goes away when driving then that to points to the starter clutch, but does your bike give you issues trying to start it? Im sure you would have some issues starting it at times aswell if it is the clutch.

The scooter start ok. The last week it's sometimes has a delay after i push the starter button until you hear the starter, but i'm sure it's just the battery a little weak (maybe because of the cold). It's doing this rattle noise for quit some time.
I'm waiting for a new gasket and oil seal, so i can open the right cover, see what it's going on in there. I will update when i'll know more.
Thank you.

i had one that had a rattle and it turned out to be the oil pump chain was hitting against the the oil pump cover. while you have the side cover off make sure the chain is not too loose and able to tap against anything.

My scooter don't use a chain for the oil pump. The starter clutch has a gear behind it which turn another gear which rotate the oil pump. Here is a picture from when i did the engine rebuild about 2 years ago. I'm still waiting for the gasket to arrive so i can open the right cover. The post really slow this time of year.
