This past week has been a nightmare for me on the road! I have had more than the usual number of times I had to avoid someone who was either merging right into me, or pulling out in front of me from a side street or parking lot. The sad thing is none of them was using their cellphone, so it was just plain lack of observational skills on their part that put my safety at risk. I got hit in the facemask by a soda can on the freeway. Time for a replacement facemask anyway (maybe a nice new helmet), already was scratched up a bit, now has two nice long scratches right of center. I watched a cop lead a pack of commuters going close to in a 65 zone. Yes, speeding that much chafes my hide, why did I have to pay all those speeding tickets in my youth if it's fine for the cops and everyone else to do it now. And today, I had a sport bike rider with a passenger filter at a freeway exit, both on the ramp stopping next to me second in line, and in between the two cars ahead of us as they were turning onto the road when the light turned green (filtering is illegal in Nevada). I acted foolishly and pulled up next to him at the next light (without filtering), and gave him a piece of my mind about how he was endangering his passenger, and giving all riders a bad reputation. I took off ahead of him when the light changed (he was not concentrating on his gears at first), and he decided to gun it, switch sides of the lane and filter between me and an SUV, and whacked my right mirror as he zoomed past. He had no plates on the bike, and took the next right while cutting off a truck. I at least wasn't foolish enough to follow him. I guess I should just be thankful I've logged another week of riding without an accident (26 years accident free riding now). That, and keep my eyes open!

Jerry grin and bare it. There are many things life throws at you. I'm sure the hit on your mirror was intentional.
Sometimes its better to mind your own business.

You're lucky you aren't in TX. Sounds like from Leo that guy would've shot you instead of hit your mirror. I do have to ask--when you gave the guy "a piece of your mind" were you angry or calm about it? Very glad that you have YOUR observational skills in full working order! Just keep those eyes peeled, watch for the idiots, and enjoy your ride! >'Kat

I know you want to be your brother's keeper, Jerry, but I would not confront the miscreants. You can't reason with an adrenaline junky. -I fear the huge pickup trucks more than firearms on the TX roads , Kat.

I've given up with that stuff,,,too many freaks on the road that may be armed and drunk/drugged up enough to use it,,,every once in a while retribution will come out of nowhere when a jerk will do something to piss me off royally and will get stopped by a cop so I make sure I slow way down and beep when I go by,,,,pure joy

Oh cy, you're as naughty as I am.
I was going to work one morn when the snowplows couldn't keep up with the snowfall. I was driving just under the edge of losing traction. Some SUV-moron barreled up behind me, jockeyed right'n'left, tailgated then backed up. Finally passed me way too fast. I crested the next hill and there he was in the ditch.
Yep, I beeped and waved as I went by on my careful, slow way.

"I was going to work one morn when the snowplows couldn't keep up..." Was that in the Taurus, Kat? Must have been a priceless experience to see that SUV in the ditch.

Was that in the Taurus, Kat? Must have been a priceless experience to see that SUV in the ditch. Of course that was in the Taurus. He really was a damn good car in snow. Only got stuck once in 20 years, and that was the stupidheads in a Jeep's fault for going the wrong way and making me stop. And oh yeah, I very definitely was not having Christian feelings when I saw that ditched SUV. Hee hee. I'm so bad. Back to the naughty bench for me. >'Kat

When I have my hands free setup in my helmet I just tap and call it in to 911 and tell them about some crazy guy on a motorcycle or tricked out truck driving to endanger. The police are better equipped to deal with an armed nut riding a bike or radical pickup truck.
When you catch up and see them in hand cuffs or sitting in the back of a cruiser you know that you potentially saved someones life and prevented them from victimizing anyone else that day.

While I whole heartedly agree the cops should be the ones dealing with these issues, I don't have a hands free set in my helmet, and the motorcycle did not have plates. If nothing else, I hope the passenger at least got the message, and will not ride with that idiot again.
Although I believe I should not have opened my mouth in this case due to the circumstances at the time, I do not fear opening my mouth, to cops, gang bangers, or anyone else. I miss the land of the free and the Brave!

Hey, bro, you're one of our favorite ItIsTheRide site pals... We want ya to be around a long time! So please consider that opening our mouths (no matter HOW right we may be) no longer starts a "boys will be boys" fist-fight ending in a friendly handshake afterwards... even though wearing a helmet in a fray definitely gives us an advantage... LOL! HeHeHe... Woo HOO!
Confronting a drunk redneck in a 4x4 is rough, a soccer-mom raging on diet-pills is worse... but a pack of genuine "gangstas" (unlike the whimsical KIA "hamstas") is whole different animal. 12 to 18 years old, no I.D., no known address, no morals, no remorse and used to killing folks for little or no reason, from the age of 7 or 8 with less care than stepping on a cockroach... Usually in a stolen car with a posse of equally brain-dead, drug-encouraged pals, he or she is truly dangerous. You can bet your baggy pants and teardrop tattoos the little miscreants will stitch you nose-to-toes with a full-auto AK-47 or MAC-9 just for giving them a "look" they consider as "dissing" their "rep".Pick your battles, friend, but be sure of your enemy before starting something that may put you in a body bag long before your time. Ride safe, and LIVE LONG!Leo (turnin' 70 and not done yet) in Texas

There is a huge difference in fighting and violence,,,,I generally keep my mouth shut as said before,,drug/alcohol rages are unpredictable and don't go by boxing rules,,,most altercations in these situations last less than a minute usually with very serious injury or even death as the outcome,,,and most people are not trained or ready to join the fray,,,this is why we see in these shooting situations over 100 people running trying to hide instead of rushing the guy and tearing him/her apart,,,literally,,most don't have the stomach for it,,,
