A little while ago I had an issue starting and spent an annoyingly long time fiddling with stuff and trying to start my gy6, only to find that the damn ground by the cooling fan had come loose. I tightened it up and it starts fine most of the time now, but I think when I was trying to repeatedly turn it over when the ground was loose it messed something up.it usually turns over first try, but sometimes I'll hear the starter go but the motor won't spin and it take a couple tries before it catches. I'm thinking its most likely the starter clutch got screwed up, or perhaps the starter got a bit fried, idk. What do you guys think?

If the starter motor is turning but the engine isn't rotating, it can only be the clutch (the idler gear, which connects the stater motor to the clutch, almost never is the problem)
But if it's working OK and not a risk of stranding you - and not too irritating - why not just live with it?

I'm living with it lol, I'm just worried it'll get worse Idk. I like a project, but getting to the gear kind of looks like a pain and I'd need to buy all kinds of special tools and crap. it would be nice to put a heavy duty starter gear in, considering all I have is electric start. My kickstarter is screwed in an un fixable way, where the case holds a gear the little socket cracked so I can't fix it. I don't have a backup so It's a bit worrying. Will the starter gear continue to get worse, or likely stay functioning as is for a while?

It will get worse especially if the engine kicks back and tries to counter rotate occasionally while starting which is usually what causes the starter clutch to fail in the first place.
