Hi, all you scooter fans, got a simple ? I'm pretty sure my starter clutch is going bad,it still works, but now and then it makes a strange noise. so I think I'm going to replace it be for it leaves me stranded some place. I've got all the correct tools to do the job. just one ? is the hut that holes the gear on a left handed tread or right hand tread ? I haven't tore in to it yet but would just like to know before I do. all the videos I've looked at seem to show left handed treads but no one stats that it is. a conformation would be really helpful. OH,ya this is on a 150cc 1 57qmj motor . thanks in advance for the info. later

"We found out that the starter itself had been bad so we put so grease in it and it will work a quick fix but it really needed a new bearing. Since it has undergone so much damage now we probably will just replace the starter motor for the next ride. We didnt think it was the starter before since we pulled it out and tried it and didnt make any noise. So we replaced the starter clutch instead which didnt fix the problem." . . source

sounds like started drive isn't matching up with fly wheel. I would pull starter and inspect gears on both fly wheel and starter if nothing is found replace complete starter.

Thanks everyone for the advance I'll pull the starter out first and check it out before I order a new starter clutch. now that you've made me think about the sound I hear could very well be the starter bearing going bad. thanks again. later

I just listened to the video . I'm 100% sure its the starter clutch. Mine sounded exactly like that . I thought it was the starter at first , but after trying 2 different starters , the sound was still there.

I shouldn't say 100% , but its hard not 2 since I had the same issue, with the same sound. If you have ruled out the starter , then its def the clutch.

I would def rule out the starter first because if I'm not mistaken , the starter sometimes can make a similar noise when going bad.
