I've been having an issue with my electric start. When I try to start up my scoot I get this high pitch noise sounding like a baby elephant bellowing. I can stick my socket into the fitting on the fan and rotate it past TDC (like an old Model A) and the starter will engage and then it turns over and starts. I need to get a new stator ( the voltage is low on one of my wires from it) so I figured if it is the starter clutch I can tackle that while I have that side open.
i am trying to get everything straight because I'm going to use this scoot to get my motorcycle license and I need it in tip top shape to get past the road worthiness inspection before the road exam. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would take the cover off and see if the starter gear is turning. From what your telling it seems like you might be correct about the starter clutch.

Years now people would call them bendex but that was the name of companys name, true name would be called a starter drive. I would say the starter drive is week or shot. Like before if you can watch when you hit starter button and see start push forward to engage but won't turn that's the problem. In some cases the part needed is hard to find or priced to were you can get the whole thing together and its all new. Keep us posted

The sprage clutch may be worn however what you are describing almost sounds like some missing teeth on the ring gear or intermediate drive. The sprage clutch is a directional bearing or clutch bearing on the intermediate gear driven by the starter so that it free wheels once the engine starts so that the gears are constantly in mesh. Any help would be greatly appreciated. You may have the same issue I have ? The scoot is making. Almost a weird noise " not really a wining noise but almost like an elephant noise, lol. " it seems like the starter clutch is not grabing like it should. If I give the fan a boost the crank starts to turn but not like it should . with the starter in the crank is hard to turn by hand , but with it out it turns easy. I think in my case the starter clutch may have been stuck " engaged" and wore out the rollers in the starter clutch or wore a groove in the crankshaft !! I'll know 2mro |

All of the gearing baths in oil.
Geh, your using a fixed advanced cdi and a larger bore. I would lean toward extra compression and early spark. As the cause for premature clutch failure.

Are you talking fan cover or the cover holding the stator?

Are you talking fan cover or the cover holding the stator? CVT cover. The oblong pill shaped cover on the left side located next to and connected to the rear wheel. It uses 8 bolts, all bolts if stock should be 8mm. If it is hard to remove pull on the case while tapping it with a rubber mallet. |

I'm sorry guys but I left out some info on my scoot, I have a 2014 Bashan BLX 150cc and I have the 1P57QMJ. It would seem that I would have to remove the cover on the right side of the scoot.

yes the plastic shroud, the fan, the magneto and the cover/section that the stator mounts to .

Thanks, now I'm just waiting on parts to arrive, I'll post results. I'm hoping I can get to it this weekend, the weather been in the 70's and I wanted to ride so badly.

Well guys parts haven't come in yet and I want to ride. My need for the electric start was that when I took the CVT cover for the first time, I didn't realize that I had to be very careful replacing the cover and watch out for my kickstart gears. Well I got them misaligned somehow and when I had to resort to kickstarting the kickstart was not engaging the idle gear. So when my parts didn't show I figured I needed to fix my kickstart anyway just in case something like this happens again.
well I went online watched a vid on the YouTube and put those suckers back in alignment. She started up on the first kick.., as the old saying goes, "Out of necessity .., ."
Still I'll keep you posted on the electric start part of it, I'm off for a little ride for now.

I took my side cover off to inspect the starter new ncy starter clutch and it was in pieces !! many of the rollers fell out when I removed the starter gear, and I did have a groove wore into the part of the gear" were the rollers grab " . I replaced it with a new starter clutch " stock type " and all is good . I'll have to watch it just in case it happens again.

Well guys, the parts came in and the weather was nice enough for me to tackle the starter drive installation. Only issue I had doing the disassembly was with the rear swing arm and the spindle, so I went up to the newly opened Harbor Freight and got a 3 jaw bearing puller, and finally got it separated. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, I measured my bolts and marked that measurement on the corresponding hole on the crankcase cover so I wouldn't get any mixed when reassembling the cover. Well as suspected the starter drive was shot, installed the new one, put everything back together fine. When it came time to change out stator, I found out the one shipped to me has a smaller connector than what I have on my scoot, so I'll be returning that one, but anyway finally got everything together and pushed start button and she fired right up. I would just like to say thanks to all the guys that participate and share their experiences here, it has helped me to appreciate my little 150 a little more and I also like being able to take care of those little problems that might arise from time to time.
