The body is amazing with all the ways it gives you hints to take it easy for a while. My sister-in-law didn't pay enough heed because she had too....
Bottom line is she put herself back over a year in her recovery and finally wore sandals last Thursday for the first time since this all started and was a little self conscious about it. You can hardly notice the toe they ended up having to partially amputate.
Good you have a friend who is a pro at physical therapy. Keep up the good work on staying to the straight and narrow and your recovery should be much more drama free than my sister-in-laws.

My friend is the best PT ever or I'm some kind of Wolverine, lol after almost 4 months of the first fracture and 2 months from the second one, I'm walking around like nothing happened, pain free and no noticeable long term effects, still not allowed by the doctor to run or do any high impact activity, but I feel like I could run a marathon. Today he took some X-Rays and the bone is already healed, the fracture joint is displaced and it will stay like that forever, you can notice a small bump on the leg, but it's nothing serious, I will be able to have a normal life and a fully operational leg again; he told me that next month I probably be discharged.

You got really lucky so take this second chance as the blessing that it truly is and don't push things this time.
Great to hear the prognosis is that good! Please don't do anything to change it.

GOOD ON YOU KAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!
First, I must offer an apology, I never meant for this thread to become a drug notification or personal experience account of usage....
I just hoped this would help with the recovery--- Having a place to vent and, knowing other folks CARE about your well being, that's important when going through though times.....
I took the stripper joke a bit to far, but If you smiled at least once I hope it's OK......
Side Note---
About addiction, I don't want to go back to this topic ( as it seems Kat is NOT a victim ) Others are though......
( this is serious ) After a night of Smoking and Alcohol, My cousin woke up next to the corps of his fiance.... I wont go into the details but, Addiction is not always the cause of issues..... simple misuse can leave a lasting effect .....
If the couple had just stayed with the Drinking and a bit Smoke, Maybe left out the perscription drugs, their lives would not have ended/changed so dramaticly.......
Sorry for the "downer" Post.......
On the Positive side, My cousin is now doing very well, It took great trama to become succesfull.
I wish you well young lady KAT, You have a lot more smiles to provide everyone around you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey ricardo, sounds like you and me will get dr-released about the same time!
horace--no prob. You didn't really hijack my thread. You didn't know that the drugs make me sick and I had little risk of getting hooked. And if the drug stories help someone out there, then well worth the stray!
Now Crunchy Cheetos addiction, that I *am* at high risk of!

And feet update for the night.
Another hot soak with much wiggling, plus some gentle pushing against the tub's wall to help stretch toes.
Airing out for an hour afterwards.
The right toe looks a bit oozy. I'll keep an eye on it. The right outside is still zingy. How long do nerves take to shut up? The left toe is still being relatively good. Kinda' crusty though. Ew.
One more night of Neosporin, then I can go gauzeless. Unless things are still oozy, then I'll be smart enough to keep them covered. And I'll try driving tom, after getting home from the Jazz gig and switching out the left bootie for a real shoe!
Sun I can use the itchy cream. And the aloe/vitE lotion to help reduce scarring. Unless things are oozy....

Movement is key for bone healing, contrary to popular belief, it actually stimulates the bone to heal the wound faster, that's why the orthopedists use now mostly rods instead of a casting for months like they used to. My PT friend put me on therapy as soon as I could get off the bed, first with electricity and massages, then a few days later with low impact exercise, I still had the stitches when I was in therapy.

Did the Doc address what to do if things get oozy? Type of oozy matters too whether its clear or otherwise.
Don't be bashful about calling the Docs office if the ooze turns cloudy or gets worse or if things start getting feverish.
Better to call more often and be safe rather than sorry.

I hope you can switch to a real shoe soon, Be carefull though, Blisters and redness are the devil Also, when you do get going again, don't favor one leg over the other when walking. You may feel like a 2 year old learning to walk again but, Take your time and stumble around at YOUR pace. No need to throw out a hip. Good Luck Little Lady!!!!!! BTW, Cheetos indeed need to be Crunchy--- None of that Puffs crap

BTW, Green ooze is bad-- A bit of discharge is to be expected as I'm sure you know. Get some Saline Wound Wash!!!!!! That will help to take off the Gauze if it becomes dry and hard to peel off. GOOD LUCK!!!!! I want you terrorising the streets at a solid 45MPH this spring!!!!!! ..... Side note-- Have you started your scoot lately? I expect that's the last thing on your mind right now but, Maybe make sure the battery tender is hooked up or let in run for a while........ That would give ya something to do besides being cooped up in the house all day... Just a thought.

ricardo--you're on!
rocky--no he didn't. And tonight all three areas look redder than before. And the right toe def' oozed into the gauze. But seems my pharmacist once told me something about Neosporin can sometimes cause reactions if used in quantity. I figured 1) dr told me to slather it on, which I actually did NOT do, just a solid line, and 2) I washed it every night. I am skipping the Neo tonight and just putting clean dry gauze on instead. And using a larger piece to not retape over the same reddish itchy areas. 'Cause it might be the tape I'm reacting to instead. -If it remains red or even oozy come Mon, then yep, it's yet another call to the dr's office. I hope they don't get tired of my calls.
My pinky toe itches on the inside like a hoard of chiggers found it.
horace--it'll be hard to not favor, since the right foot remains bootiefied for another month. I know last time the boot totally jacked my stride. But that was a diff design, completely flat with no range of movement. This one does have a bit of curve to the sole so hopefully will be better paired with a real shoe. -Don't have saline wash, but Mom found a bottle of wash from (we think) when she was in the hospital last year getting her heart all checked out. I figure if it's from the hospital, must be safe on oozy incisions. Eh? If nothing else, it's supposed to moisturize without aloe or other stuff, so maybe that'll help with the itchies? -As for Peej, he's contentedly sucking in juice from the tender. I'll have to disconnect it to start him, so that's on hold 'til I can put weight on the right foot without fear of hurting that screwed bone. 'Cause of course the tender's plug is on that side. Of course.

Btb, the Jazz gig went well. Sadly there wasn't a big crowd for the couple's 60th anniversary party. But those that came seemed to have a lot of fun, which is what matters. And the couple loved having us there, which is most important of all. My foot started to really hurt partway through our second set. I think partly it was getting close to Tylenol time, partly I was probably flexing the foot without even realizing it. Popped my Tyl between songs the next set and didn't play when my part pretty much was covered by the rest. And had a little sandwich after set 3. By the second song of set 4 it was feeling ok again. I did feel a bit doofy getting pushed around in a wheelchair. But doofy is better than screaming agony feet. Plus I got a big piece of the party cake, which some private bakery had to've made. Lightest moistest cake I've possibly ever had, perfect frosting, middle was lined with fruit and clusters of fruit decorating the top. Incredible amazing cake. Wish I could find out where made it. Going to take the loopy drug tonight--if I alternate between it and the barf-drug, then I should keep bad reactions at bay. Right? >'Kat

Latest in feetness.
Went to Savers Sun and found a man's sneaker, size 8.5 that was nicely wide, but the bottom of the U where the laces thread through pressed against my left toe's joint. Didn't seem like a good idea to worry on the incision. Instead went with the lady's 9.5 (I usually wear an 8) dance sneaker that is slightly narrower than I would've initially liked, but puts zero pressure on the incision. Plus was only $6! And not very worn, either (I'm a bit freaky about used shoes). Been wearing it most of the past two days, feels good to be out of that bootie.
rocky, you'll be happy to know I called the dr this morn, 'cause last night there was still a little ooze on the rt toe's gauze. He had me come in. Checked all three sites, looks fine, no infection, he's happy. Don't use Neosporin anymore 'cause the weird little hardish reddish bumps are probably from a reaction. And I'm happy 'cause he said I don't need to cover with gauze anymore, except the one area that's still seeping that little bit (and only during the day). Keep soaking every night. And start exercises on my left since it didn't get a new screw. Oh, and the zinging I sometimes get on the outside rt is normal right now, along with the still paining. Mostly I feel way better knowing things are going normally down there (esp the zinging--that was starting to concern me more than the ooze). And the itching is healing, and toes rubbing together that usually don't (swollen, you know)
Say, if my left foot is currently a size 9.5 from a size 8, I wonder what the more-swollen right would be?
>'Kat, currently lying in bed with booties off resting feet
