Went out to the scooter this morning and....crud...
Someone stole the battery. Grrrrrr......
At least I can kick start it...but this would be the week I am broke, so am going to have to wait to payday to replace it. And of course this would be the time the batteries are dead in the disc alarm. I could just kick myself.
But I think it's time to look into a dedicated alarm system or something for the scoot. Any ideas or recommendations?

I got mine on e bay you can get them as low a twenty dollars. The one I got was a remoter start with a alarm and it works great. The reason remote start my trike says first start up of day let it idle for a few minutes I am just inpatient if on setting on her I just want to go LOL happy riding sorry you lost your battery but be happy they didn't take the whole bike right?

Why would you steal a battery? I mean seriously, the one for Vik's 87 SE50P cost about $25 at work (WalMart), why would you steal that. Hmmm, got a pic of the battery location, etc? I might be able to think up a way to make the batter stay put next time.

Sounds like you have a floorboard battery or did they bust open the seat? A lot of work to steal for what an old used scooter battery is worth unless you left it all open with the battery exposed.
Hope they did not damage the bike when taking it.
Pics will help generate ideas on how to better secure the new battery.

Hi JD - Some feedback will help generate some more useful answers. Any chance of getting us a cell phone pic of the battery location, damage, etc?

Hey guys, thanks for the input....I'll get some pics together when I get home later.
For the record, the battery is contained in the floorboard. There was no damage, whoever stole it knew right where to go and what to do -- perp was probably another scooter rider. Everything was unscrewed, nothing cut. At least I can be thankful for that.
I'll post some pics later today.

Ok, let's see if I can do this....here's some pics of the battery box.... I bought new batteries for the disc alarm, as well as a new battery for the scoot...$70.00!!!! The new battery is downstairs charging. At first, I was thinking of making some way to key the battery compartment. Or maybe make a floor plate to go over the complete flat area. Thanks for all the concern and input folks....I really really appreciate it. JD

JD Well, off the top of my head, you could get something like these Torx Security Screws Or you could save money and buy non-security screws with an uncommon head such as a hex key. Not the greatest security, but that's just off the top of my head, i'm sure we can think of something better in time.

Seems like someone needed a battery more than you did......
At least they did not leave you with flat tires too......
Sure this sucks but, all is well since you got a new one anyway. (Trying to see the positive side of this issue) It could have been worse. No scooter at all would have been a real bummer.....
Maybe it's good you got a new battery with the season being so hot anyway....
Safety bolts are a good idea but, a decent thief will have a torx set anyway....
You could hide the battery elsewhere (under the seat or farrings) and leave a "dummy" in the battery box if you think it will help. Heck, you could strap a Car Battery to the rear as a decoy...... Lots of things could be done but, a thief will get what they want.
Whatever you decide, Be safe and GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Thanks for all the ideas and help folks, I really appreciate it.
I've ordered an alarm system for it from ebay. And I think I'm going to go with the Security Torx Screws for the battery box. Indeed, I feel quite lucky that it was just the battery and not the whole scooter. This may suck, but it could have been a lot suckier.
Thanks again for all the help!

Just a quick thought....... Sometimes a scooter alarm is more trouble than it's worth..... (constant battery drain).
Do you by chance have a battery charger? A Battery Tender or something like that ?
Side note---- Heck brother you didn't even get the old battery trade in discount... You were able to ride though... Keep your chin up JD, it could always be worse.
Stay safe

Actually, horace, the store did give me the trade in discount -- or rather, didn't charge me the core charge.
And yup, I do have a battery tender, thankfully.
