JC, my heart goes out to you man -- and that IS one NICE looking scoot! Glad to read that it's coming together for you though. I wish I could give more than one bone, you certainly deserve it!

Did you find any significant issues, or change out the carb, etc.? Nope....it still has the factory carb, spark plug, coil, etc.

Congrats! Ride her in good health! Out of curiosity, did you have Family Go Karts do a full PDI/assembly before shipment, or did you do it yourself? Or both? I did it myself

It was a year ago that I ordered my Tao Tao Quantum 150 from Family Go Karts.
In that year, I have dutifully changed the motor and gear oils.
In that year, I have not had one single problem with this scoot.
It has carried me back and forth from work everyday without fail, have run it on errands without fail. It has never once let me down! Not once!
Woohoo!!!! I am one happy camper with this scoot!

Hey all...long time since I've posted here...
Since work is only a mile from where I live -- and I don't have a car -- the scoot escorts me to work unless there is snow or ice. That makes the journey too risky, so I hoof it. But I've only had to walk a few times. I have a rainsuit that I purchased, extra large, to go over my clothing and coat which tames the cold winds.

Are you certain the speedo is set for Miles Per Hour and not Kilometers Per Hour?
I have a Tao Tao Quantum with the digital speedo. It is switchable between MPH and KPH.

Awwww dude! Really sorry to hear (and see) that. On a positive note. Chicks dig scars?!?! *not that you want to hear suggestions. 99 times out of 100 it is better to stay upright and stay on the brakes the whole way in if collision is unavoidable. I don't think when Kat sees this she's going to "dig it" Kat will be apoplectic when she sees this thread. Kat---> <---ricardo Ricardo, man, you've had the worst of luck, I don't know how you keep such a good attitude. I'm wishing you a speedy recovery, my friend. Clearly you are one die-hard scooter fanatic. JD

After having a battery stolen from my scoot (see story elsewhere on ItsTheRide) I took the advice of user crawford and purchased an alarm system off ebay. Mine was under $20, and easy-peasy to install. It has a 9-pin connector that hooks right into the wiring harness on my Tao Tao Quantum. Here's a list of various alarms on ebay: Scooter Alarms On EbayThe one I have is pretty sensitive to motion, in fact a neighbors loud muffler will set it off. The sensitivity IS adjustable, though. I also chain it to a post in my carport, put a disc lock on, and cover it. The disc lock does have an alarm, and probably would have gone off when the battery was stolen....IF I had fresh batteries in the alarm. That's one drawback of the Oxford Disc Alarm that I have. You have to keep batteries in it. When it rained, water would get into the device, and either set it off or render it unable to sound off. The alarm system crawford pointed me to runs off the scooter battery, and from what I can tell, uses very little charge. The alarm is loud enough to wake me up inside my house, and the remote works from within the house as well. Like the others said, there's no steal-proof way to equip or secure your scoot -- but you can make it so that the amateurs, or the parts thieves can be put off unless they really know what they're doing. Actually, horace, the store did give me the trade in discount -- or rather, didn't charge me the core charge.
And yup, I do have a battery tender, thankfully.

Thanks for all the ideas and help folks, I really appreciate it.
I've ordered an alarm system for it from ebay. And I think I'm going to go with the Security Torx Screws for the battery box. Indeed, I feel quite lucky that it was just the battery and not the whole scooter. This may suck, but it could have been a lot suckier.
Thanks again for all the help!

Ok, let's see if I can do this....here's some pics of the battery box.... I bought new batteries for the disc alarm, as well as a new battery for the scoot...$70.00!!!! The new battery is downstairs charging. At first, I was thinking of making some way to key the battery compartment. Or maybe make a floor plate to go over the complete flat area. Thanks for all the concern and input folks....I really really appreciate it. JD

Hey guys, thanks for the input....I'll get some pics together when I get home later.
For the record, the battery is contained in the floorboard. There was no damage, whoever stole it knew right where to go and what to do -- perp was probably another scooter rider. Everything was unscrewed, nothing cut. At least I can be thankful for that.
I'll post some pics later today.

Went out to the scooter this morning and....crud...
Someone stole the battery. Grrrrrr......
At least I can kick start it...but this would be the week I am broke, so am going to have to wait to payday to replace it. And of course this would be the time the batteries are dead in the disc alarm. I could just kick myself.
But I think it's time to look into a dedicated alarm system or something for the scoot. Any ideas or recommendations?

Yah ive searched high and low and tried to find any info on anything i could find about the digital gauge also. Well im just wondering what your supposed to do if it quits. I have wondered this same thing myself. The dealer told me it would NOT have digital gauges, but lo 'n behold it did. This, after I convinced myself it would be an expensive part to replace if it quit, and that analogs would probably hold up better.

Benjamin, the Quantum scooters seem to come out of the factory with no rhyme or reason as to why one has a digital speedo, and others do not. Not the answer you were looking for, I know.
There is some discussion of this on a youtube channel. One guy, who got his Quantum from the same vendor me -- had an analog gauge package, whereas mine has the digital cluster. He had ordered his like a month before I ordered mine. Both probably shipped out of Tao Tao's Texas warehouse.
I was figuring mine would come with the analog gauges, so tried to research where I could purchase a digital cluster, but came up with nothing. When mine arrived with the digital gauges I was presently surprised.
The digital cluster apparently has a number of features, but I cannot find any instructions on how to program the varios doo-dads. By trial and error, I've been able to reset the trip odometer, the clock, and set it to MPH versus KPH.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
