I'm lucky that where I live all the other scooters on the road are Chinese as well, LOL! A local pawn shop has made a sweet niche selling new Chinese 50cc scooters. For anything more, you have to travel out of town a bit, or order off the 'net. Kennett Missouri is not exactly a hub for the wealthy and famous (except for Sheryl Crow). The "economic recovery" hasn't reached down this far. So if one cannot afford a car, or internet access, and doesn't want to walk everywhere, the pawn shop will put you on a payment plan -- and a set of really fun wheels! Myself, I didn't go this route -- I ordered mine online, had it delivered to where I work, and put it together in the stockroom.
All that said, your post reminds me of the one thing I don't like about the scooter world -- the underlying anti-Chinese clap trap. I've seen it on boards elsewhere (not so much here, thankfully -- which is why I joined this one) Some of us just can't swing the price of a top-of-the-line Vespa. I suppose the detractors decrying "China crap" feel that we are not worthy of membership in the scooter world.
Myself, I just enjoy scooting about, and I rather like my Tao Tao. And I rather like as I go down the main drag, seeing another scooter coming -- and hearing the double-tap of the horn, or the wave -- and returning same. We seem to be a friendly bunch, rooting for each other. And THAT is worth a LOT to me! (Hey, I'm an old geek, it doesn't take much to make me happy, LOL)
Sorry if I rambled...
Cheers,
JD

I'm picturing their faces when you came in on crutches, paid the guy and took the keys, got on the scooter after stowing the crutches, and driving off. >'Kat That's exactly how it happened, lol. Good Grief!!!!! Ricardo, I can't figure out if you are super-dedicated....or super crazy!!! How do you take a poll on this board? You're an inspiration, man, keep doing what you're doing! JD

Ricardo, I've been painfully reading your other thread....ouch man, you've been through the mill. Glad to see you got another scoot! When will you be able to ride it?
Cheers,
JD

Well, for me getting a Chinese scooter was about price -- and just getting some wheels to get around in a new city after a rather catastrophic life event. I just can't afford a pricier vehicle at this point in time, so I chose to go with a scoot. There are not many used ones for sale around here, and for a couple of hundred more I could get a new one, albeit, Chinese. So I purchased the Tao Tao Quantum that I have now. I never owned a scooter or motorcycle prior to this, so was not 100% sure this would be for me.
I live just a mile from where I work. Before I got the scoot, I hoofed it. Now, frankly I wish the distance was further so I could enjoy the scooter more, LOL! But if bad weather hits and I can't take the Tao Tao, as least I can still hoof it.
I'm handy with a wrench, so am not intimidated by whatever work I may have to do on the scooter. Other than a vacuum line off when I first put the scoot together, I've had no problems whatsoever.
I'll admit, one of the reasons I picked ItIsTheRide was a cool thread about the joy of riding a scooter -- and the fact that this site seems to have the least anti-Chinese bias. Sure, I'd love to have a nice big expensive scoot or a motorcycle, but that's just not in the cards for me right now.
Cheers!

Ouch is right... When I got my Quantum, I started digging around for where to get parts, just in case.... I found this outfit -- I haven't done any business with them, so I don't know how they are -- but here's the link: Eagle ATV PartsClick on Scooter, then scroll down to the picture of the Quantum, then click on Body-All for a listing of all the body parts they carry. Hope this helps.... JD

Well, here's hoping it doesn't happen again -- or if it does, the fix is easy. After all, we can't have "The Scooter Of War" chugging out, now, can we? I had to do some digging before I found the corresponding Shakespeare, LOL!

By the way, I compliment you on your purchase of a Lancer 150. It was a hard decision for me to decide between the Lancer and the Quantum.

I have a similar issue on my Tao Tao Quantum, though not as pronounced. I'm thinking this: Harbor Freight Tire Balancerand this: is the direction I might take for a solution. Any thoughts? JD

Hey Javarod, I just wanted to check in and see how things were going with your scoot....did the dealer get your problem fixed?
By the way, I get a kick out of the nickname "The Scooter Of War" LOL! What made you decide to name it that?

Hmmmm......if he's having all this good luck with the scoot, why is he selling it? I can think of a few reasons: 1) Copped a disease and has to pay the STD clinic. 2) Didn't use protection, baby is on the way, and he's being sued for child support. 3) George54 is right and he now has carpal tunnel syndrome from repetitive stress on his hands and needs surgery.
