I've had this scooter for a few months and it's proven to be inconsistent in it's reliability. The past couple months I've been having a problem with it not being able to idle without engine cutting off. Sometimes it starts fine and sometimes I have to spend several minutes making several cranking attempts to get it started. for instance, I'll gout some where and when I leave the house it starts up fine, but then I go right around the corner to put some gas in it, then suddenly it doesn't wanna start and it takes several minutes before I get it going again. And this can happen on the road too like while I'm waiting at the light. I then have to quickly shuffle to the side of the road to try and get it started again. It's like the scooter chooses when it feels like working. It happens so inconsistently that I can't decipher what the problem is. The last time this happened I couldn't get my scooter too start back up and was stranded and had to walk it back home. I would like to know what things I should be checking for and what kind of tools do I need. I'm having trouble checking the spark plug because the thing is damn near impossible to get to so I don't know how to get it. ( feels Like i would have to take the scooter apart)

That's what the add said when I bought it it said 50cc. Doing a little research the engine is a 2007 XY150T engine. Does that mean it's actually a 150cc? What exactly are the valves and how do I go about adjusting them?

www.itistheride.com/Help_Daymark_valve_adjustment_tutorial.pdfIt says it is for a Daymark, the only difference between this and your scooter is if you do not have the pair system, which is the tube that goes up infront of the valve cover. Everything else on how to do the adjustment is the same on any gy6 150cc motor.

If you are not mechanically inclined i would not mess with it. If you did not even know what the valves are i would not adjust them.

Need an 8mm to remove the valve cover bolts, a 9mm wrench to loosen the nut on the valves, and a set of feeler gauges to set the proper lash.

I had a friend tell me it was the spark plug so I changed it and it seemed to work fine briefly i rode it for a little bit and it cut of and i couldn't get it to start back up. after a few minutes i took the new spark plug out and i looked like white soot on the top. It looked to me like I burnt it out so I was gonna walk the scooter home since i hadn't gone too far. I put the spark plug back in and started it. with a little struggle i got it to start and was able to ride it home, but as i started to get home it started to struggle a bit I was getting a low rpm reading and the engine cut off when I went idle. The only thing I can imagine at this point is my engine is over heating maybe? When I first put the new spark plug in it started with no problem and I could even idle fine. Is it an over heating problem?

still check valves clearance one thing at a time.

First set your valves, there are lots of videos on hiw to adjust valves on a gy6 on YouTube.
If your spark plug has white soot, you are too lean. You need to take the carb apart, clean it, then adjust the air/fuel mixture. Look for the 4TS Carb Tuning guide in the tech section here.

So I changed the spark plug and this is what the old one looked like... This is what the one i replaced it with looked like after I took it for a ride and it had trouble starting back up... Does this second plug look foul to you? I just replaced it for a second time after adjusting my valves. One thing I noticed about my spark plug cap is that while it is gripped on the spark plug it does feel loose, like i can freely giggle the spark plug cap on the spark plug. Is it supposed to be able to do that?

Depends on the boot, some are little loose. The metal ones seem to be the tightest.

That sure sounds like a vacuum leak, to me.
Check your intake manifold for cracks. Check the hoses for air leaks. Those will be the hoses coming off of the nipples on the manifold. It could also be the connections on the carb are loose. Check the hose going from the airbox to the carb, and make sure it is fit on there snug, also, make sure the carb is in the intake manifold snugly.

I know that the hose from the airbox to the carb is torn at the end that goes into the carberator. I used duct tape to try to cover that up, but my guess is that the adhesive won't last long enough

I know that the hose from the airbox to the carb is torn at the end that goes into the carberator. I used duct tape to try to cover that up, but my guess is that the adhesive won't last long enough I bet that is your problem, right there. You need to somehow seal that up. That gets pretty hot. I bet the duct tape gets loose as the engine heats up. Those symptoms sound exactly like an air leak. If it were mine, I would be going over all hoses before I tried anything else. You could maybe use a couple of wire ties? You need to make sure that connection is snug. If air is getting in, you get the symptoms you described.
