bad fuel?

i filled up on my way to work then a mile later i noticed a slight loss of power. i arrived a few minutes later and didn't give it anymore thought. well on the ride home it was running rough and stalled a few times and that's when i remembered i just filled up from a different station.
if it's not bad fuel then i think i have serious valve problems. i'm going to drain it tomorrow but is it OK to ride it a couple miles to get fresh fuel? i don't want to bend a valve if i haven't already.

Disclaimer--I AM NOT MECHANICAL!!!! That being said, can a valve go bad that quickly? It does sound like what friends have described with bad gas in their cars. >'Kat

Drain into something clear so you can see. you can really tell the difference when you look at it.

i did some reading on a few other sites last night and i'm pretty much convinced it's water in the tank. i assume it wasn't too bad the last few miles to work since it didn't have time to settle but by the time i got out of work all the water would have settled to the bottom of the tank. i didn't find any info on the dangers of running your engine with water in the tank. makes me a bit nervous when the scoot is violently shaking. i've never had problems with mobil before but you can bet i won't ever go to that specific gas station again.

Call the station and tell them...one, they may pay to fix the scoot, and two, they need to know!

Was there a tanker in the driveway dumping fuel down into the tanks by any chance?,,if so they stir up all the junk and moisture at the bottom,,even though they have filters on the pumps some of that stuff still gets by,,ask me how I know.... I never get fuel while there is a tanker on site dumping at any station,,just drive on by........

I had that issue a few weeks ago in my car. I was running errands and stopped at a different than usual station. Almost immediately my car ran like crap! I stopped at an AutoZone and got some fuel system drier and it cleared it up pretty quick.
If that happened in my scoot I would have drained the tank and cleaned my float bowl as well. But in my car I couldn't very well dump 16 gallons of gas. I'd go with the easy gas changing first and see what happens.

Here in KS it's big fines if there's water in the tanks. The little station up the street was pumps-shut for a few months because they couldn't keep the water out.

Your problem REALLY does sound like bad gas. However, I had a similar problem with my old Chinese GY6 150 and it turned out to be the CDI going bad. I would first, definitely drain the fuel and re-fill with fresh gas. That will most likely solve the problem... If it does NOT, remember, the CDI and coil on these sometimes can mimic other problems.
My old Xingyue gave me FITS like that. I've had the CDI go bad instantly, stranding me, AND I've had the CDI and coil both go bad over an entire season, the scooter running worse and worse... After weeks of fiddling with the carb and other possible tuning issues, in frustration I simply replaced the CDI and it ran "better". Then I replaced the coil too, and it ran "great" once again.
I was truly amazed how the doggoned CDI and coil could actually imitate bad gas, lean-running and numerous off-and-on "sometimes" or intermittent problems. Cheesh! I'd STILL bet on bad gas, but it's good to know the electrics can cause similar irritations... LOL!
Not a bad idea to keep a spare CDI and coil (and spark-plug) on-hand. It only takes minutes to change them out for a quick "test" just to be sure one or the other is, or is not the culprit. A quick check may eliminate, or confirm the problem.
Hope this may help,
Leo in Texas

Hope this may help, Leo in Texas I agree oldchopperguy, I had the same thing happen last summer with my "performance" coil/wire. The boot had gotten loose, and different vibrations would cause it to lose contact, bogging so bad it was like riding a bucking bronco till it vibrated back on and would zoom away. I spent three weeks trying to fix the non-existent a/f issue I thought I had. One day I finally decided to put the stock coil/wire back on, and I haven't had any issues since. Looking down inside the plug boot on the "performance" wire, I could see the clip was bent out of shape, probably my fault.

seems to be back to normal. took 2 fill ups and an ounce of heet (brand of dry gas). it was still running rough for about 15 miles after i used the dry gas. i was close to swapping the cdi as Leo suggested but it magically fixed itself.

GOOD news for SURE! No magic involved, except maybe chasing out that "bad-gas devil"... LOL!
"Heet"... Brings back some OLD memories! Good product, been around since before dirt... One of my very first commercial-art jobs was revising the old HEET logo and doing art for a HEET display for auto-parts stores. Pretty crude... OK, it really SUCKED... LOL! But heck, I was getting PAID to do art, and THAT was a biggie for a 16-year-old buck! I was ridin' "Old Blue" and thinking I'd live 4-ever... Ah, NOPE! NONE of us is going to make it out of this old life alive.
Wow, that was more than a half-century ago!
How time DO fly...
Enjoy your scooter!
