So my exhaust fell off again on my TaoTao Powermax 150. ...except this time it quite literally FELL OFF. Brackets, pipe, muffler, the whole shebang - broke off at the header right in the middle of the street. At least my studs didn't snap. I think I'm just going to go ahead and bite the bullet and buy a "performance exhaust" from Ebay to tide me over until I can maybe have my metalworker friend fabricate me something. Can anyone suggest one that fits without modification? EDIT 2/12/2015: The answer is the standard P&P Performance Exhaust that can be found on Ebay! Thanks to everyone who chimed in to help out, wouldn't have been okay with getting it without your input. I just need to pick up some hardware to make the fit of the bracket and hanger a little nicer this weekend.

Sorry to hear that Captain, just do not ride around without one otherwise you will burn your exhaust valve. And most exhaust you buy unless specific for that scoot some kind of mods will have to be done to make it fit. Just remember no pressure on header where it attachs to the motor. You mount that first and then see what needs to be done to mount the muffler so that it DOES NOT put pressure on the pipe. If you force the muffler to get it to align to mount it will eventually break the pipe or pull or break the studs on the head.

I would say any cheap ebay 150 performance pipe would work.
Ash Geh,,he got one from ebay,,it sounds awesome,,not sure what he all had to do too get it to fit.
My P&P pretty much bolted right on,,the brackets swivel so you can put it wherever you need too,,then tighten them up.
You may have to bend the bracket a little or drill a hole,,but like I said ask Geh,,he will hook you up cappy!
Also if you need something welded or drilled and you are in the area of P-burg NJ,,swing by and I will buzz it up for ya.

Thanks for checking in Alley. Is it typically that they just stick out off of the side too far that is the issue, or that the pipe is touching something? This is really my first foray into this sort of thing so I don't have any experience or knowledge whatsoever regarding fitment of aftermarket exhausts.
I ran it about a mile without the header ~15mph. It broke off right at the header and left the part that bolts on intact, so I only had about 1/2 to 1 inch of pipe on it. I hope to have not done any damage to my valves but I'm not going to be able to check on all of that til the morning at the earliest. It sucks that it's so cold because I'm terrified of the cool air causing something to crack inside. My inside storage is unavailable right now. A nice warmish weekend is coming up that would've been perfect to ride in here in Jersey too. Worst. Timing. Ever.

Oh nice. Thanks for that jerseyboy. I'll send him a PM and see what he can tell me then. I swear I don't know what I'd do without this board sometimes lol. Y'all have saved me so much time and frustration before and during my ownership it's unbelievable.

Yes the problem is mostly they either come out to far which then creates a problem mounting the muffler, You then need to bend the PIPE so that the muffler aligns with the mount. Or the pipe does not come out enough and may hit the fan shroud etc.. Or the pipe is bent to low or to high, .

Hey, while I've got some eyes on this thread too...
You guys know those nice little metal brackets/mounts/don't-know-the-term-for-it-things that fit on to the swingarm for mounting the metal and rubber muffler hanger straps? They're usually chromed or some kind of shiny metal. Any idea where I could find one because I have had zero luck unless it's bundled with a system. Having one would have saved my pipe tonight.
EDIT: Scratch that, I actually found the P&P exhaust you referenced. I'll wait to hear back from Geh but if it's easy like that I'll definitely pick one of those up for myself.

My P&P bolted right up,,there was an extra arm on the bracket that i did not use so I just cut it off with a hack saw,,you only need one good mounting point other than the head studs to hold it on there..I didn't have to bend or drill anything.
I will take some close up pics of it tomorrow for you cappy.
You are going to like the sound of that exhaust...lol

I gotta tell you, I really love the sound of my open header too lol. It's a shame it's so bad for an engine! You'd swear these things are some kind of chopper coming down the block if you didn't see it.

Yeah joey np,, Its not bad for stainless,,mine looks perfect and had it on for 3 years now,,the header is a little blued but thats normal.Im going to wrap it anyway. Hey cappy,, Here are some pics of how I mounted mine...very simple and I utilized the stock hardware..one mounting point is all I have used for three years and its rock solid. They say its steel in the auction but I believe its stainless,,mine has not rusted yet,,even where I cut it,,so must be stainless. Very good quality free flow pipe indeed.I would buy another. You can see where I cut the extra bracket off in the pics,,if you can utilize that bracket more power too ya..lol JB
