I've had my Honda Reflex 250 mph + indicated (83 and climbing per GPS) It will get up to 70 pretty quickly then acceleration slows; considerably so after 75 mph. At those speeds on a scooter, the thing holding the bike back is wind resistance. Craig Vetter made a streamline fairing for his 244cc Helix and it would get past 80.... A HELIX!! for goodness sake!!! But that was about it because that was all the gearing was capable of. And his mpg went up to something like 80 something routinely..... and around 100 mpg on a few occasions. No big deal, but I've had my Silverwing up to 98 (max speed recorded....so far) It is capable of 100+, but I've no real need to go there. The 98 mph reading came with some "spirited riding" with a group of sport bikes last summer. Not something I do with any regularity at all, it's just that it was one of those moments..... Clear skies, wide open with a view well down and around the smooth well maintained road, bike running smooth and fine, I'm feeling fine and sharp with a few other fellow riders covering territory like a group of stallions encouraging each other with leg stretching runs.... well.....maybe some of you know the feeling.

I've ran the interstate on my Roketa 250 a few times. Same thing, hardly anyone passing me, and most of the traffic around 70+ mph. Had a fair bit of throttle left, and room on the tach. Speedo reading 80, but sure it was off somewhat. Bike tends to float a little at those speeds, so I rarely take it off the surface streets. What WOT...

How did you determine it's that far off? GPS?the digital speed signs clock me at 45 while my speedo reads 55 and 35 when my scoot shows about 43. both figures are off by about 18% so i assume it's always 18% optimistic.

I've only gotten up to between 65 and 70 on my 257cc (I'm up to 235lbs at this point), but I don't feel safe at that speed. My suspension feels like it can't manage at that speed, and as I've said on the highway speed thread here I start getting white knuckled from all the buffeting at that speed because I'm sure it's going to knock me down.

The trick to any scooter lasting long is not to ride around WOT all the time,,that will cut the motor life in half if not more..its ok to rip it up to 7.5k-8K RPM every once in a while though,,what fun would it be if you didn't

both figures are off by about 18% so i assume it's always 18% optimistic. Not necessarily so. My old Taurus, the speedo read high when I drove slow, pretty spot-on in the mid-range, and read low when we were hitting highway speeds. My scooter, I'm not dry enough behind my ears yet to compare speedo and my Garmin. I'll just pretend Piggys are...how did rocky put it?...their "fit and finish is above normal" so their speedos should be accurate. >'Kat
