Getting my new 150 registered today. Progressive gave me a full year of insurance for $75, just chose the only 150 they had listed for Zhongheng. The DMV didn't even make me pull the frame cover to check the VIN, he said as long as the plate didn't look tampered with it was OK. Took him about 15 minutes to find Zhonghen, but passed the VIN inspection fine. Got in the info line in the DMV, put in my phone number at the kiosk, instantly received a text message stating my wait time was 306 minutes!!! Luckily, our DMV continutes to text you with updated wait times, so I'm back home for a few hours till it gets closer to my time. Then I'm riding the rest of the weekend, don't even know if I'll sleep!

Yep! In Vegas, the DMV is open on Saturdays from 8am-4pm. With this new text messaging system, it's really not such a drag after all. I'm sitting here at home doing whatever I want instead of sitting at the DMV, and I've received 5 automatic text messages updating the estimated time I have left. I can even text back asking for more time, instantly being put further down the queue. Pretty cool system they have going, I'm editing the title of this thread, I can't say I hate them anymore, but I can't say I like them either.

I have insurance on mine but my reg ran out..jersey wants $67 now to reg a scooter,,thats as much as my truck!! Makes me mad but I am going to have to do it.
Funny thing was she gave me a moped plate the first time I went there to reg it,,I told her its not a moped,,should have kept my mouth shut. But then again if a cop saw me fly by at 60mph with moped plates he might get upset..lol

So the Znen Pacifica is the one you are registering? Nice lookin scoot. Yes, thanks! I've only ridden it around the neighborhood a couple of times, and down to the DMV inspection station to check the VIN. Sometime this afternoon, I should have my plates, and finally be able to take her out for a real ride! But then again if a cop saw me fly by at 60mph with moped plates he might get upset..lol Yeah, the price of the ticket will be many times more than the price of proper registration, I learned that the hard way 20 years ago. Many judges will reduce the fine to court costs if you have the proper paperwork before going to court, but who wants to waste a day in court, and it's still much cheaper to do it right the first time.

FINALLY! My new scooter is registered and no longer has a naked fanny. One thing that surprised me, they charged me local sales tax, even though it was purchased from a different state. Think I may call the Dept of Taxation on Tuesday and argue with them a bit. $1404 x 8.1% = $113.72 in taxes that I don't believe should be collected by the local tax dept, since it wasn't purchased in state. They went over every detail of the paperwork with a fine tooth comb, everything checked out perfectly. One thing I always recommend, do not fill out the rear of the MCO until you are at the DMV, and let them tell you exactly what to fill out. One mistake can lead to headaches and extra fees and a longer waiting time to get your ride registered. Now that that's all done, I'm riding the rest of the weekend!

$1404 was with shipping ? The way I look at it the shipping was about $650 so they get tax on $750 (wink) . You will not win with the state dmv , law enforcement can kiss your azz now you jumped through hoops to get it legal .

I know they hit me with the slave tax... err sales tax when i registered my 150cc ordered from CA.

John Shipping was probably a bit less, it was just from southern cal to vegas, a few hundred miles. Of course all that means is the dealer made a better margin due to lower free shipping costs, but I'm very happy with the price no matter what, it did have a holiday discount btw. The tax had to be paid on the full price, since it was free shipping those costs were not itemized on the bill of sale and couldn't be deducted. Might be something to think about, asking for the shipping costs to be listed when purchasing online, so you can perhaps get a lower tax bill. Does make you wonder, how can they produce these scooters so cheaply. I may just be in honeymoon status with my new ride, but it is worth every penny I spent on it. If the cost of free shipping to the customer is so much for a dealer, and you figure in their margin, then subtract what they (or someone upstream) paid for shipping from China, then take out the cut some American/Chinese middle-man/govt-agent took, and the actual price the manufacturer receive on this model couldn't be more than $300. I guess it's due to the fact the rest of the world rides scooters, so the truly massive scale of production must keep costs down, but still, it just boggles the mind they can build this scooter so cheap!

A couple of full days of riding will most likely make all the difference!

It is nice you got it done. It is also nice they are open on Saturdays too. I like the notifications of how much time left in the queue too. But yes they want to charge a tax on everything. Out here they even have a special tax for if you simply give someone a vehicle too. You would think that paying zero dollars would result in no sales tax. Well that it does, but then the "gift" tax or something like it kicks in. Thus you cannot win they got you anyway. Heck even when you die, the governments are the first in line to make sure they get the tax money from your estate.

This reminds me that when I went to register mine the M.O.C had it labeled as a "mopad" which led to a 40 minute process of the ladies behind the counter trying to figure out what a "mopad" was despite me repeatedly saying it means "moPED" and it's not a "MOPED" anyway, it's a "scooter" that needs to be registered as "a motorcycle." Lol it was infuriatingly dumb.
