This is a very interesting thread indeed! Have you had a chance to use the vacuum gauge on the road with a load?

Scoot - have a few miles under the belt with the electric pump, so I thought you might be interested in feedback:
1. Love it. No waiting for vacuum to pump gas to the carb.
2. Was worried about current consumption. My ammeter was way down & the battery was gradually being drained. Turns out it was NOT the pump (which seems to draw very LITTLE power), but the high power H$ headlight bulb I installed at the same time as the pump (60W/55W -- too much for the little mouse fart alternator on these things). I've fixed that problem with an "on/off" switch for the low beam, used normally "off" except at night, and a nice LED 3rd light (the classic headlight comes with a normal (though only 35W) hi beam/low beam bulb, and also another little bulb, very low wattage, that seems to me nothing more than the scooter equivalent of a "halo ring". I removed this bulb and inserted into the hole a 35W LED bulb that draws little current but makes the headlight glow nicely for daytime driving.
Anyway - no problem with the electric pump
3. There is no need for a pressure regulator if you use a pump like the one I have with 5psi or less. Just plumb the pump output directly into the carb.
4. My tank is under floor & the little pump does not struggle at all getting fuel from there up to the carb.

Very good work scoot , its nice to be able to get some real numbers from good tests.

This is a great thread! Glad I found it and thanks for taking the time to do this scooter! Tom Thanks, Jersey! I need to test my new scooter like this. I am "jerking" at top end wide open throttle and I suspect either a vacuum leak or a bad fuel pump. I think I'll try propane testing around the vacuum lines and, if I find nothing, I'll pull the pump and clean it. I think the electric is okay. It only jerks on the road, not on the stand and I think it's a fuel issue. I need to learn about doing compression tests. I like what you were saying about leakdown testing. That sounds like a very useful tool.

Mega dittos from me also. This is a really good thread. Any updated numbers? Thanks, Joey! None yet but I'm going to test my new, poorly running, scooter and post the results soon. If I ever get it working right, I'll retest and compare numbers.

That sounds like a very useful tool. Only jerking under load could be fuel or spark related..a weak coil or CDI issue could cause this as well as fuel. Ive seen motors run fine under no or light load when only small amounts of fuel need to be burned to spin the motor,,then when a load is present with obviously more fuel added,,the spark is not strong enough to burn the added fuel properly.

dmartin: I was just going back over the old comment where you had a photo of your gauges.
1 question;
where the heck is the boost gauge?

I'm with J-Boy, Scooter.
Had that exact problem last summer. Anything near WOT and the thing just was more like a waffle iron than a scooter.
Alley spent hours with me trying to get thew A/F set correctly. All the time it was the coil (or, possibly, the loose 12 volt connections to it - I never went back to check). Was OK at idle, but pulling any more current and the thing just crapped out. Wouldn't have believed that to be the cause if it hadn'thappened to me personally.

I just saw this problem on a john deere tractor a few weeks ago here..ran good till under load then fell on its face sputtering and acting like a fuel or air leak issue..ohmed out the coil and saw it was way out of spec..replaced it with a new coil...BINGO.
