So I ordered a couple aftermarket CDI's and coil wires for my 50 and 150 VIP scooters. Got them in and was all excited to install them.
Putting them on was easy. Starting wasn't. The 50cc wouldn't fire over at all. The 150 would fire but only after I got it started with the stock CDI and the enricher working. Then if I was quick, I could put on the aftermarket CDI and it'd fire and run like a top. Once I shut it off again though, it'd not fire again until I put the stock CDI back on and repeated the process.
I'm thinking that it needs more fuel, meaning that I'd need to take off the stock carbs that don't have fuel adjustment and put on aftermarket ones that do have the fuel adjustment.
Thoughts and tips?

Are you sure they're the right type of current? I haven't done this to my 150 VIP yet so I'm interested in what it turns out to be for you.

Both were listed as AC CDI's and I'm pretty sure mine are AC.

Can you put up the links of the CDIs you bought? If they are performance CDIs they will have a fixed advanced timing in other words the plug will fire early and it may be that they are to advanced. But yes if your carbs have a plugged Fuel Mixture screw they are most likely set to LEAN to pass emissions, you can drill out the plugs to get at the mixture screw behind it and save yourself some bucks. Alleyoop Here is a Video drilling out the plug:

Both were listed as AC CDI's and I'm pretty sure mine are AC. Easy enough to test, put your OEM cdi in and test the power wire WITH THE KEY ON that is the BOTTOM wire on the 2 plug of the CDI. If it registers 12volts it is DC if NADA it is AC. Or you can use a 12v light tester if it lights up it is DC if not AC. So if your OEM CDI is DC then you got the wrong AC CDI's. Alleyoop

Sadly I don't have anything to test with. Would it have run at all if the CDI were wrong?

I did wonder about the being too advanced part but after getting it to fire on the 150 the way I did, I figured it was just lacking fuel.

I would not drill it out like in the Video I would drill a 1/16 hole in the center then get a small pointed wood screw and screw that in and the plug will start to turn and then work it out. You can get what you need here: Alleyoop www.cv-performance.com/cvp-mixture-screw-packing/And they go in this order just make sure there is not a washer and o-ring already in there:

In my experience, even with one of the "Racing" CDIs, the bike will fire over just fine with a stock engine. In fact my P139qmb engines first mod was the blue racing CDI, red hot coil, and a good plug.
Note that I use electric start on all my bikes though. Make sure your battery is good and fully charged and try to crank it over again with the racing CDI.
Also check all the pins in the plugs on those racing CDIs, sometimes they come lose.

I've had zero luck getting either to fire. Maybe I should've taken my own advice and spent a little extra to get em from Scrappy Dog Scooters instead of a cheapie from amazon lol

No I haven't. I've mainly been looking at Scrappy Dogs for parts, and amazon as well.
