Well I've been ordering my gates pl30708 belts from a place in Georgia called moped motion for the past two or more years and I've never had a problem . I just received a new belt today and- it looks like a standard pwerlink 842 belt . I emailed them and they assured me it was a pl30708 and said it was a new design , here is a pic of one of my spares and the new one . The new one is on bottom. . I did notice some red numbering on part of the belt which I think one of the numbers has to do with the measurements of he belt but the first number does match one of my other Kevlar belts , and there is also a number 4 in red that is on all the other Kevlar belts but not on the standard belt . So I'm kinda suspicious of the whole thing but I'd like to know if anyone else knows if his is true or has any info for me . Thanks

Those are both 842 belts... 842 is the length.... I can't remember if the second number is the width or the angle of the vee..

The red numbers I'm talking about are not the belt size numbers but I think they are number on the belt material , they have an " sc" between the first two sets of numbers . And the 4 ended up only being on two others so they are all probably meant for something else . I got the number for the Denver company and I'm gonna call tomorrow . It was after hrs when I called today .

Well I have to tell you the one with the PL numbers that says made in china I believe it was made in china. Sure looks like not a quality belt I mean the printing was not even stamped on straight Also you never see the belt size as printed as 842X20X30. Alleyoop.

I know both are 842/20/30 , I'm just concerned because the new one dosent have the usual pl30708 like all my other aramid" Kevlar" belts , even though my usual seller assures me that it is a pl30708 and that it is a new design. I was hoping the red numbers on the belt " not pictured could help me figure out if it is a Kevlar or not , but it dosent seem like they are of an use in identifying this . Also my other 842 belts along with one 835 all measure 845 in length and the new one measures 855. The 835 is not a Kevlar and I'm sure it stretched more so that could account for it being the same length . But the new on has not been used yet and is 855mm in length the inside measured 845mm .

I looked up that place and they are on ebay and for the price they are selling those belts(cheap) I don't believe they are the real deal. I have someplace on my computer how to spot the fakes, it has to do with the gates symbol on them and a couple of other things on the belt printing. I will see if I can dig it up.

All of the aramid powerlink belts showed the size like that " 842x20x30" the standard belts just have the 842 20 , or 835 20 without the 30 . The print not being straight dosent bother me , the quality has always been great as a gates belt should be . The top belt has around 3000 miles on it and is one of my spares . Also gates belts are made in china so I guess if they have to screw something up I'll let it pass if its just the print being off , lol

Here is another pic of three other spares , the first two are pl30708 " Kevlar " belts and the bottom is a standard 835x20x30 . This is why I'm having a problem with the new belt . They say it's a pl30708 but looks more like the standard because it dosent have the part number pl30708 and it has the size marked like the the standard 835 above .

Actually it was 24.50 plus I paid 5 bucks shipping , I see they have them at 24.50 free shipping . I paid about 25 from napa so I guess the price is about the same . Although I got screwed on shipping .

We can talk about the printing on the belt all day, but we'll never know if its any good until you use it

If you're concerned Gates would probably be happy to help you find out if your supplier is selling you the genuine product or sending you standard belts and representing them as Aramid.

well I called gates " the Denver distributor" and they told me that they didn't know of any changes to the pl30708 belts " as in the labeling " . they gave me another number to call but they told me all I needed to hear . so I emailed the ebay seller and told them that I called gates and that the belt they had sent me was not a Kevlar " aramid " belt . I didn't want to get them pissed off so I left them an out and asked them ( who told them it was a Kevlar belt ? ) they blamed their distributor and then asked if I wanted to return it for a refund or if I wanted them to send me another belt . so I emailed them and said ill take the other belt this time and hopefully there wont be anymore problems. I figured if I blamed them they might just stick to their guns and make the whole situation drag on .
