I've got a full time job been working 40+ hrs a week now as why I haven't been on here as much. It rains and storms here all the time so I bought a new Chrysler 300c v8 hemi and haven't rode my scoot much.

The 300 is a nice car. Enjoy the luxury and being a full time employed tax payer, supporting those too lazy to get a job. I enjoy my new Avalon and riding the scoot on weekends Soon to become one of the retired

I got a rain suite instead and saved on the $30,000 to $45,000 MSRP and suffer with the extra $4,000 per year in gasoline savings over driving my Chrysler MiniVan to work. Despite the Semi-Tropical rains here I am seriously considering just eliminating the big Chrysler since I rarely drive it now that I have the Aprilia 250. Have almost 25,000 miles on the Aprilia that would have mostly been commuting with the big Chrysler had I not switched to a bike. $2,999 investment has put over $12,000 so far back into my pocket in gas savings alone and saved me the 10's of thousands of dollars cost of replacing the big Chrysler.
Congrats on the job! Don't spend it all in one place (oops you may have come close on a 300 Hemi).

Of course rocky, how much extra driving around have you done on that Appy that you wouldn't have in your Chrysler? You should subtract that portion from your gas savings. Also, some of us live in states (KS, MO...) that have all four seasons. In St Jo I believe they experience Hot Season, Freezing Season, Rainy Season, and Orange Cone Season. No wait, that last one's all year long, same as this side of the metro. mill, congrats on the job and the car! I hope you enjoy each! >'Kat

Listing the dollars spent on riding the Aprilia just to and from work would drop its comparative costs however those driving the Chrysler would stay the same. It really pained me when they moved the office since I took great care to find a job only a mile from the house which didn't cost that much even with the big Chrysler and took only a few minutes for the commute. Many workers were local to the old facility and the cost of gasoline commuting to the new facility ended up for many being the same as a 25% pay cut. The new place is far enough away to impact automobile insurance rates too. Before the move I was using around $25 to $30 a month to commute compared to $70 a week after that. How would it impact your budget if your pay was cut $65 a week?

My job is seven miles one way so its not far, the weather here in saint Joseph is unpredictable rains and storms two to three times a week. I love to ride but not in rain, lightening and tornados.

Getting a BMW scooter or a vrod I love two wheels. I have an 09 VRod Muscle and absolutely love it. 0 maintenance motor besides the obvious oil changes. you can search youtube for "vrod documentary" and it'll pull up 1.5 hours of goodness. Stay safe on them though, tons of power.

One doesn't ride or drive in tornadoes so a car is not going to make a difference however it can rain daily here and lightning in Tampa Bay beats most of the world. If the job pays well enough to support a 300 for commuting that's great. I am just too cheap to go that route. I bought a 2 bedroom home for what a midsized car costs today.

The new place is far enough away to impact automobile insurance rates too. Before the move I was using around $25 to $30 a month to commute compared to $70 a week after that. How would it impact your budget if your pay was cut $65 a week? I figure I pay about 3/4 of what to use the bike instead of the cage. When you figure, the bike I ride is 30 years old. It's pretty dependable, but it does need stuff from time to time. For example, I go thru rear tires in about 8000 miles. Thats a 150 dollar day, if I have the honda dealer do it. I have an extra insurance payment too. So even tho the vintage wing gets a solid 40 miles to the gallon, and the ridgeline gets about 16, I figure I save 5 dollars a day in gas. That said, Mk II goldwings really kick a lot of heat at the rider and it's been upper in the upper 80, 's and 100's the last two weeks, the ride home can be uncomfortable. Even on the freeway. I also avoid riding in the rain. I don't care about the cold. The worse it gets here is in the 30's, the goldwing will be very comfortable. So far, I've put about 1500 miles on the bike since father's day. When you figure in the times I don't take the bike, I about break even. It is great stress relief going in to work tho... it's awesome, it's still cool enough to be comfortable. Then there are those times, I ride it for the sake of riding. Last night for example, me and my buddies went on a 100miles night ride. We left at about 10:30pm and I rolled home at about 3am. I put 140 miles on the bike (20 miles to the meeting point). You can't put a price tag on that. The weekend before that, we rode to Donner pass thru soda springs. That was a 200 miles day. Very awesome ride, with two of my buddies. One of them even took his daughter along. It's been over a week since I've even fired up the Ridgeline and about a month for the Jimmy.

I had to put a battery charger on the van yesterday so I could run it an take it out for some fresh gas. Time passes quickly and I just have not had time to run it just for the sake of starting it and riding a few times around the block. It has become an ornament decorating my driveway and rarely used now. Only about 65,000 original miles on a 2000 Model Year vehicle.
I bought it when I was getting paid by the mile to travel for work and was racking up so many miles (150 per day) I had to replace my vehicle early. Of course they had a hostel take over and closed my office shortly after I made the purchase giving us only 24 hours notice when they did so..
