Good morning
I just bought a 2008 Adly thunderbike 50 and I'm not sure what to do for maintenance. It didn't come with an owners manual so I know nothing about the the type of oil to use in the oil container under the seat, is there engine oil that needs changing, is there gear oil that needs changing, etc. Any help would be appreciated. I've been looking for info online and can't seem to come up with anything.
Thanks again.

Welcome to the site,, You have come to the right place,,look around for a while you may find exactly what you need after some leg work. Yes there is engine oil, gear lube, filters, hoses, clamps, cables, and a slew of other things that need attention. If you look in my signature you will see the lubes/oils I use,,they can be had at Wally World for a very reasonable price. An auto parts store will carry the NGK plug you need,,just bring your old one in and they will cross it over to a nice Iridium upgrade. The fuel line i use is quality 3/16 the auto store has that along with a good inline filter.. I recommend reading the tech tips section and find the PDI stuff,,it will be super priceless for you to have the info...even though your scoot is not new,,the previous owner may have never done this stuff?? itistheride.boards.net/thread/46/big-guy-pdi Hey,, Enjoy your stay and welcome again!! That was so helpful! I've tried a few other sites where posters haven't been very kind. I'll check those things out. Quick question to get started. The engine seems to be under the seat... And there is a seat there. How do I get to it? Can I just unscrew all the Phillips screw's on the plastic frame?

Watch this Video it will show how to take the seat and bucket out to get at the motor: This is for a valve adjustment so you can skip all that yours is a 2 stroke. Alleyoop

Lambretta is made by Adly. Google adly or lambretta and you can find owners manual and service manuals.
Two cycle uses oil mixed with gas so always keep oil in the tank. The oil is injected into the carb with the gas.
Always use good grade two cycle oil. Stay away from cheap two cycle oil. I use Lucus two cycle iol. LLove my Adly.

Wow! Thanks everyone for the help. I took the body off to just get a feel for everything. This site had been great. Question though.
Since this engine burns oil moved mixed with gas, do I ever have to change engine oil or just keep it filled up? Gear oil has to be changed though right?

I read the manual posted. Thanks! Looks like you do change engine oil. I want to make sure I understand this.
Are there three places oil is used? 1. Gear oil - This needs to be changed. 2. Engine oil - This needs to be changed. 3. Oil that gets mixed - This gets burnt off so I just keep it filled.
Is that correct?

Gear oil needs to be changed. Your 2 stroke oil that gets mixed with your gas is the lubrication for your engine. It has its own holding tank and is injected into the carburetor or you have to premix it with the gas. The 2 stroke oil you just add and don't change because it lubricates and burns off with the fuel.

just make sure you keep that oil botttle stays full. there should be a dash light that comes on, if your 2-stroke injector oil, called oil, bottle. gets low. there is a light on the dash, called oil, should be. itll light up if your low on 2stroke oil. suppsed to be. and supposed to work. the 2stroke oil mixes with a gear pump. you should have a split throttle cable but i dont know for sure, that pulls, as you pull the throttle cable. if not, just make sure its wired full open. yuo can findthat stuff in the manual. just dont let that bottle get empty.

Gear oil is now changed. Now I have a question about the engine oil. I now know that with the type of engine I have I don't usually have to change the oil, just keep it filled. But... The person I bought this from said that it was in a shed for a few years. That means the oil is probably not great anymore. Is there a way to change it even though I'm not usually going to have to?

well. the service manual should have a procedure.
mines like this. sort of. i done mine when i changed oil brands. i heard to.
change out the lines and bottle all the oil in all of them. pull your line off the oil fill bottle. it should also have a screen in it. take it off and blow it out backwards with compressed air or somethign to get it uncloggged. take you oil bottle, empty it into something. take the oil lines off. they should, be a line that runs from the tank to the pump. the pump runs off the crankshaft, and turns and pumps oil, that goes to it from the tank, to the carb, and mixes in the carb with gas. take off the 2 lines coming from the pump. one goes to the tank and the other one goes to the carb.
drain them. and your tank. then hold the line in a U shape. and fill it, with a small, funnel, or a tip. like, weedeaters that come with a fill bottle that has like a funnel with a cap thing on it, that screws on to a bottle. fill, the hose bent like a U shape, on both sides, to the top. Put the bottom part, the gear side with the clip already on, first, on first. then the other side, to the oil bottle, to the carb, on next. carb first, since its lower. if yours, is lower. i dont have an adly. so. .. make sure its clipped back up with the clip lines, fill your fill bottle then. with your new oil. also run around half a gallon of new oil with around 3/4, ounce of oil in it. thats, like 1.5 ounces to a gallong. which is like an 80:1 mix. so your first half gallon will be oilly. just sort of burn that gallon off. let the air get out of the lines and stuff.
tahts the instructions with my bike. mines a gear pump. and yours should be too. yours should come with a manual. just sort of burn out the first half gallon to get any air bubbles out of the lines out of, it. thats it. should do it.
and use injector oil. that will work with an injector. not weedeater oil. dont go fast on the first half gallon or around 15 miles. letting that oil burn through the line.

Remove seat and side panels. Take oil tank out and empty and replace with good oil. Check the manual or threads for a proceedure to bleed the oil pump and bleed the pump. If you are concerned about air in line use a premix of gas and oil at 50 to 1
