Stopped at Scooter World yest since they had their OPEN sign on still. They had no magazines (why I stopped in). But they had a brand-spankin' new scooter that they had literally just put together and put on the floor room--the Genuine Hooligan 170cc. Rather an interesting looking beastie. I'm betting there's definitely a market for it out there. Most interesting feature just eyeballing it is a built-in cargo net over the floorboard. And no, sorry, didn't get a photo of it 'cause it was right before closing time for them. But I found this online-- www.scooterfile.com/scooter-reviews/first-ride-genuine-hooligan-170i/It's too rugged-looking for my tastes. But I thought some here might be interested by it. Me, I'll be sticking with my sporty Big Wheel. >'Kat (edited to give a better link)

Kat,
I JUST got done checking out this new scoot from GENUINE myself! My dealer (MOXIE SCOOTERS) is a big GENUINE dealer, with the complete lineup of BUDDY scoots, and he newly received one of these. They come ONLY in flat-black, and flat-green. They are great scooters, sort of "bridging the gap" between "pseudo-military" "Ruckus" and "Rat". To my eye, the flat-black version is by far the most appealing, as most EVERYTHING from tires to paint is "mono-chromatic" and very stealthy, or as today's kids say, "sinister".
It's a follow-up to the Buddy "Ace" which was a genuine (no pun intended... LOL!) "rat-bke". It was the regular BUDDY in flat-black, with red rims, wide-whites and to my eye was spot-on! However, it did not sell well.
The name on this one is great... "HOOLIGAN". American bad-boyz ride choppers, Euro bad-boyz ride "hooligan-scooters". I hope the American market will recognize this scooter as something rough and ready, and very sharp. And, I've ridden the regular Buddy 170 and it's pretty quick! My eye still prefers the Italian look of the regular Buddy 170, but THIS one should catch the eye of those who like the Ruckus, but don't want the "nekkid" look, as well as the cammo duds and "Duck Commander" crowd.
Buddy scoots are NOT cheap, but they are NICE! I'll bet your post will sell a few of these!
Ride safe,
Leo in Texas
PS: The BLACK one STILL needs red rims and wide-whites!

I like the front end, and how they have made a bike the size of a 250 seem smaller than it is while still looking rough. It has a military look to it, with the green one being a few camo splotches away from being field ready. I would love to see the black one wrapped in carbon fiber printed vinyl.

I think I'd have to air brush it with an "Iron Man" motif....

This post is to share my experience so far with a genuine hooligan 170i
1. Changing the gear oil.. A. You cannot really check the gear oil, to set the level the gear oil, is drained and filled with a measured amount. B. Refilling the gear oil by letting the excess drain out the fill hole resulted in way more oil, which leaked out onto the rim.
2. Engine oil.
A. When I slightly over filled the engine oil, the engine lost a lot of top end and lit a dash light.. Reading this forum, clued me to the overfill issue, and I used a generic plastic mustard bottle, with a piece of, clear hose on it to drain some out.. All better. B. Today when I was adjusting the valves I might have seen how the ECM picks up the overfilled oil.. There is a vacuum sensor in the valve cover like an electronic PCV valve. This must read the disturbance in crankcase vacuum and light the trouble light.
3. Performance. Longevity
A. The bike is an easy 60 mph cruiser. Mine doesn't suffer the massive over reading reported elsewhere.. Mine is off 6 mph at 65
B. I am at roughly 4 thousand miles and have replaced nothing not even a headlight bulb. The original tires show little wear. And the tuning of the cvt is perfect.
I don't know if this is the correct thread to post general comments about models. This is only my second post. And the help page is confusing if the moderator has a few suggested links for new forum members. Or technical writing tips. Thanks

my experience so far with a genuine hooligan 170i Just curious . . does the fuel nozzle automatically "click-off" without spills when refilling?

needs a helmet box , maybe something painted olive green or one made out of a large plastic ammo box, the caargo net with items on the floor would drive me nuts, not a bad idea but not for everyone. I like my feet clear

I will try it, I fill my old school running the pump slow while watching the level. So it doesn't shut off on me.

the only thing with this color, is this is the worst color for visibility, it blends in with the back ground to cars

The gas fill does shut off automatically.

The gas fill does shut off automatically. That is definitely a plus!
