Are there ways to check for compression without test kit? minus kick starter test compression just sounds weak! \ I installed new oil seals new intake manifold new exhaust gasket, sounds like less compression than before I changed leaking! oil seals... Also is it OK to use silicone gasket maker in place of the metal head gasket? And gasket maker on the valve cover ? (RTV blue) NO OIL LEAKS anywhere so I'm dumbfounded Thanks much

Without a gauge you can use the old finger trick, stick your finger in the hole HOLD the throttle wide open and crank it and IF IT LIFTS your finger off the hole is at least has descent compression enough for the motor to run. IF you just feel a little pressure on the finger then it has low compression. If you just feel pressure then to see if its the rings pour a little bit of oil in the hole and do the test again if this time it lifts your finger off the hole then its your rings. Alleyoop

you cant use anything but a head gasket, the compression on the cylinder would blow anything you put on it right out, have you removed your spark plug lately? make sure is tight, also check the valve adjustment, if the adjustment is too tight it can leave the valves open, my engine usually runs about to Degrees F

Check your valve lash gap. Spark? Fuel flow? Ground? Was it running before you did the work?

check everything stated above, I had the same problem, I did all that and still nothing, I took the head off and saw that the piston itself was cracked, I now use it as something to hang from my rear view mirror. but if all the gaskets are fine, the spark plug hole is good, and the valves are good, check deeper.
Also before I rebuilt my engine I was having close to the same problem and a small piece of the valve guide broke off and was stuck between the valve and the head not letter the valve close all the way making it sound like I had no compression.

If you used anything but your metal head gasket than thats your problem, compression is leaking right out.

my engine usually runs about to Degrees F I can barely even touch my engine or CVT cover after riding a few miles. Where are you checking the engine temp?
