One day I was driving down the road and out of nowhere my scooter shut off on me and i haven't gotten it going ever since.my scooter has 4,000 miles on it.The lights don't,the horn don't work,nd the scooter engine does crank up when i turn the key in the switch.I took my battery out and took it to the scooter shop for testing and they said the battery is no good. They charged the battery and it was suppose to get 12 volts and it only got 6 volts.
I'm hope that the battery is the only issue, but it may lso be something else like the charging system or whatever.I havent drivin my scooter in 6 months because of the problem, therefor the scoot probably built up alot of dust and the carb may need to be cleaned. If i knew excactly whats wrong with my scooter I would try to fix it myself, but the problem is I don't know how to diagnose/troubleshoot a scooter.
Can yall please help me on what yall think may be wrong with my 150 cc scooter? I would go buy a new battery for it,but I don't no for sure if thats the only problem. All help would be appreciated

Well the first thing is to get a new battery that is a must even if other things are wrong. Using the kickstarter if it has one they are not very strong and may break on you at any time. The kickstarters are only to be used in an emergencey if your electric start has a problem.
If it has been sitting for 6 months you need to take the carb off and clean it out the tiny holes Pilot jet and passages are most likely gummed up from the old gas. You also need to drain the gas tank and put new gas in it. Alleyoop

'jump it' with a car. see if it starts
BUT DONT EVEN HAVE THE KEYS IN THE CAR IGN,

There's plenty to do BEFORE even attempting a start on a long sitting scooter, FIRST and foremost is the OIL, both gear and engine oil should be at minimum checked and recommended changed. Second, pull that carb off as mentioned and give it a good cleaning followed up by (again as mentioned) draining the fuel tank and replacing with new. Third is indeed the battery, a new one is way better than trying to live with something at best half dead. Do a standard PDI as well before riding it, rust, corrosion, and neglect can have a funny way of knocking things loose, as can rodents! So check those wires carefully. I hope that get's you fired up, Yes it's about 3 hours of work but better to put it in now rather than on the side of the road stranded.

If you could get a VIDEO with sound when you try to start it with the electric start would help determine what may be the problem. I could be several things Your Starter Clutch inside the motor, the Starter itself, the idler gear that the starter turns etc.. But try this Find your SOLENOID(RELAY) you cannot miss it, it will be close to the battery and the POSITIVE CABLE from the battery hooks onto one the TERMINALS. WHEN YOU FIND it get a screwdriver and TOUCH BOTH TERMINALS on the SOLENOID and see if it spins your starter. This is what your SOLENOID LOOKS LIKE: Alleyoop

Any type will work. You're just using the metal of the driver to short the 2 contacts together.

i'm not 100% sure but i think the solenoid/relay needs replaced because i'm working on my scooter as i'm typing and the winding noise is coming from the solenoid/relay when i try to start the scooter and i tried turning that batter nut and starter nut to the solenoid/relay with a small wrench and its making sparks even the the scooter turned off.do i need to disconnect something to keep the battery and starter wires on the solenoid relay from making sparks when i turn the nut?

Hello,i'm back.to me that hardest thing about scooters is diagnosing them to find out exactly what the problem is.thats harder than doing the repair itsself,if i new exactly whats wrong with my scooter i would've been fixed it.i had recently replaced the starter solenoid and the new solenoid is making the clicking noise just like the old one did when i try to start a scooter.so what would be the possible problem(s) now? could it be that the starter is locked up or what? oh and i even put a new battery in to and all it did was make the head lights, blinker lights, and horn come back on....still like i said scooter won start.

Since you put in a new battery and Solenoid DID you hook it up right. If it SPARKS turning the nuts IT IS NOT GROUNDED. The Battery NEG SIDE should go to the FRAME, then one Ground wire FROM the frame to the MOTOR.
The Batteries THICK RED WIRE should go to ONE of the terminals on the Solenoid The other TERMINAL on the Solenoid goes to the STARTER.
Now when you touch BOTH TERMINALS on the SOLENIOD it SHOULD spin your starter because you are sending 12v directly to the starter. AND yes it will SPARK but hold it so don't get a HEARTATTACK ON US(HAHA). Alleyoop
