I took my scooter out today after finally fixing the exhaust issue I had (see thread "Exhaust stud broke...") and it performed great, seeing as I read often that raising the needle can help at top end. Needless to say I got to thinking and took the top end of the carb down, reset the needle pin just 1 step raising it. I was hoping for better top end performance but that didn't happen, in fact it slowed me down! It isn't really bogging but it's slow to takeoff and doesn't get to top end at all, should I drop the needle 2 notches to see whether that will bring it to life?

What I did was put the clip lower 1 slot (raising the needle)to enrich, could it be I was already rich and went too far?

Have you tuned the a/f since the change? Do that first to see. Raising my needle (dropping washer) made a big improvement in power and top end speed consistency. Since I've changed carbs, I've lost a little of the power feeling and this needle doesn't appear adjustable... screwed down into the hole.

wutzthedeal, yes I have tried adjusting and no results worth mentioning, It just sounds like I went the wrong way on the needle and will correct it after yet another friggin winter storm hits us tonight!!!

Well gang, leave to me. I went to tear down the top end of the carb to reset the needle bac to where I had it only to discover a vacuum line was off. Instantly the light bulb went off over my head. Hmmm, could THAT little oversight be my issue?..... YES!!! Simply put I got that back on where it was supposed to go and the scooter came to life! The only difference is now it sorta hesitates before picking up and taking off like crazy! Top end is only marginally better, maybe 1-3 MPH at best but still great anyway. On hills it really pulls and I don't feel any kind of worry when I approach even the steeper hills in town. It even can accelerate on an incline so no more issues there (not that were before but this was a noticeable improvement).

Since you raised the needle lean out your Pilot Jet, now it is getting to much fuel at the low end. Alleyoop

With a free flow air filter I should lean it out? Well, ok not made as a free flow but getting that performance out of the modded stock air filter. I'm not sure what the stock pilot is but either way it's running ok now. just like i said, slight hesitation when accelerating then pickup like crazy and ZOOOOOM!!!
