i've become accustomed to the 10 minute instant oil change so i've never had to deal with used oil before i bought my scooter. i know places will take motor oil for free since they can sell it but where? searching google wasn't helpful, i guess i'm doing it wrong.

Seriously? They resell used oil?
I think both my car mech's charge/d for disposing it. Maybe not though. I know there's always a misc shop expenses that's a couple bucks. I figured that was for towels and nuts and whatever little pitzy things they might've used or used and tossed. Now I'll have to go find my last oil change receipt and see, 'cause my memory's trying to think it was just the first mech who charged.

Seriously? They resell used oil? it's not much, i've heard they can get 25 to 40 cents a gallon. i think you/I could sell it too but you probably need 1,000+ gallons before they would even talk to us. lol the only places i was finding on google were community drop off locations and my city only excepts it a few times per year. i just missed the last collection date, next date is september.

I save the receipts when I buy oil. Most auto stores in California will take it if you bought it there. I also return old oil in the bottles the new oil came in to make it easy to transport. At least we don't have to deal with filter disposal. $2 in CA.

Every place I have lived require stores that sell motor oil to take back the used oil for recycling. Most auto parts stores have a big recycling tank to dump your used oil into to meet the law however many hide it out back and you have to ask. Some place limits on how many quarts you can drop off at one time.

Usually a 5 gallon limit. Note: do NOT use a bleach bottle for used oil! Some places will not take it if you do!

i always take mine to autozone or advance auto parts. Autozone will just take the container. Advance auto parts usually makes me dump it into a large container they have in the back.
