I had some guys park their Harleys next to my majesty at work. I told my server to tell them i like their bikes and we should get together. Well they work for the local Harley dealership and gave my server a card and to give to me. They said "we take trade ins." "Anytime you looking for something 'better' just let us know" Who said HD was better?

Harleys are nice. Pricey. But nice. But I don't think that there are better than my majesty. And I don't think motorcycles are better than scooters either.

My dad was a factory trained Harley mechanic from the old school. I personally did not like Harleys. I rode a Norton. It made him crazy. I could have built a Harley for free and I bought a new Norton. Most likely to piss him off. People getting uppity over ownership of one machine over another is a bit silly.
There are a lot of fine machines out there. It is all a personal choice.
Of course the China scoots that bring us all together are none of those fine machines. We like a different challenge. Tinkering.....

Maybe they say that because they have not ridden a Chieftain or any of the better bikes out there: www.motorcycle.com/manufacturer/indian/2014-indian-motorcycle-review-chief-classic-chief-vintage-and-chieftain.htmlI finally met the owner of the red Ducati that parks next to my Aprilia today and he also owns a Harley which he got to please his dad and a black Ducati Super. He says you really don't want to push the Harley as it is not a very well balance bike and too easy to have the back slide out on. His 1,200cc Ducati MultiStrada is much more civilized bike and safer on the road. He would like to get an Aprilia Tuono but knows he would get carried away and too familiar with the local police if he did. The red 1,200cc MultiStrada is more of a spirited sport touring bike with the complete touring package and all the hard cases. He likes the Aprilia scooters with the big wheels and sport bike heritage. The 65 to mpg appeals to him especially as a daily commuter. The red Ducati MultiStrada is a 38 mpg bike while his black Ducati Super gets about 34 mpg and the Harley around 32. He was going to get another Ducati but is considering investing in a house with a two stall garage instead. He has noticed that the Aprilia has been very reliable for me and that its a rare day that it is not parked in the same basic spot in the parking garage at the office for the past 2 1/2 years. So far if the bike is not there that means that I am either on vacation or out sick as the bike has yet to give me any trouble in the past 21,000 miles. The Harley riders on the other hand are often seen sharing stories of their latest breakdown when they pass in the hallways. Personally I believe that I have gotten my $2,999 worth from the bike and am certain that the return on investment from a Harley would not be anywhere near as great.

Personal taste is just that, personal taste.
One thing we don't need is a thread bashing one bike or another.

Of course they said that HD was "better", they work at the dealership! I'm sure the Yamaha/Honda scooter dealers would say the same thing, and so does the guy selling Chinese scoots down the road--- for the money and if you work on them, that is.

One reason I like the dealer I have been going to is that to them all bikes are good even if they are not brands that they currently sell. The finance manager is a long time HD rider and his daily ride for the past 3 years has been a 250cc Aprilia Scooter. They also sell Eton. Honda, Yamaha, KTM, CanAm, Piaggio, Vespa, Aprilia, etc, etc and will service a Chinese bike if they can source parts for it.
The Ducati rider I mentioned unlike many of the Harley riders we work with was candid enough to admit that the Ducati are for the style/passion and not the absolute reliability of their electronics. If we want reliability and high price we would all be buying Honda's but many times the passion is just not there. Too many Harley riders have a fanatical "if its not a Harley then its not a real bike" attitude which is sad since they are missing out on the fun.
Hopefully we won't be reading some day about BigGroovy asking to be buried in a glass coffin sitting on his Majesty decked out in Yamaha Branded riding gear when he dies.

Buy American! Made in the USA.. I owned a 2001 Harley Sportser..fun to ride..poor gas mileage..lots of vibration..and way too heavy for this 145lb man. But made in America?..Buy American as Hog owners say? NO..assembled in America with Taiwanese..Chinese..Italian and Japanese parts.. My wholesaler in China has a contract for factories in China and Taiwan where she gets her 'American Made' Harley parts.. The carbs..the electrical system and most of the engine parts are made overseas. She ships them to Milwaukee Wisconsin where they are 'Assembled in America' Back in the day..yes they were American made but did have some Italian parts made by Aermacchi and other parts by Japan and Spain. In fact Aermacchi even made Harley Mopeds and Dirt bike 2 strokes for them!! Check these links.. huskyrestoration.com/?p=1116 www.motorcyclemuseum.org/asp/classics/bike.asp?id=76 So ya see even as early as the 1970's they were not 'American Made' So take off those 'American Made' HD T-Shirts and decals..and stop looking down on Chinese and Japanese bikes..because THEY are the one that make the parts to 'Assemble' your 'American Made' $8,000--$12,000 'Real Man's' ride.. Yes I did enjoy my Harley..but if that is what it takes to make a man...something material and over priced ...no thanks..not even the decals for them are American Made. If you must rely on what you ride to make you a 'Man'..then ya must be compensating for something you lack elsewhere..most likely something you treasure that is hidden beneath your 'American Made' Boxer Shorts... ...lol

This subject is fading into history regardless. The ICE has seen it's day and the future belongs to the fuel cell and electrical motors mounted in the wheel hubs.
