What is the difference in flywheels for 5, 8, and 11 coil stators? I want to order a new stator and a flywheel pulling tool at the same time but I don't know what stator I have and I can't pull the flywheel without the tool. I was considering ordering a 8 coil. but it doesn't matter what stator I get unless I will need to order a new flywheel as well.

Why you need a new flywheel? Order the tool first so you can see how many coils your old one has then order the stator. I think the flywheels are all the same.

Because it cost more to order separately. I have this problem with paying more if I don't need to. ScrappyDog list separate flywheels for different stators.

the 6 pole flywheel is a smaller diameter , but the threads are the same for 6 8 and 11 . lets see what the stator plug looks like .

A 6 pole flywheel is smaller so you cannot use a 6 pole flywheel on a 8 or 11 stator. You can use a 8 pole flywheel on a 11 pole stator. Just make sure the flywheel you get the Magnet outside the flywheel that triggers the pickup coil is in the same position as your current flywheel. So look at the cutout for the woodruff key on the Flywheels, orient them say 12 oclock and see if the outside magnet on the NEW flywheel is in the same position as your old flywheel, if so then that flywheel will work. If the new flywheels pickup magnet is not in the same position then the new flywheel will not work, it will fire the spark plug at the wrong time. Alleyoop Here are two flywheels notice the different positions of the Pickup Magnet.

But yea just like he said. 6 will only work for the 6 coils and 8-11 are the same flywheels. Only thing i have seen different between the 8-11 is some do have 11 magnets inside the flywheel and some have 8 magnets but i have not seen the 11 magnet flywheel for a long time now.
