The gear is just pressed on the shaft that is all. Now to get it back on you will have to do some hammering to get it back to where it was. You will need a pipe that will fit on the crank and I would use a big washer so the pipe would be hitting the washer and not the gear, then you smack the end of the pipe using a piece of wood on the end of the pipe to hammer on.. To make the gear go on much easier with to much hammering it on Heat up the gear around the hole and then bang it on. Heating it will expand it a hair. Alleyoop When I put the gear back, I just put the gear on the shaft and tighten the variator with the impact wrench (not over tightening). Never had any problems with the gear when I've done it that way.

Use a torch to heat the hole in the gear per alleyoop's instructions. Grab a cheapo can of compressed air, hold it upside down and spray on the camshaft to quick freeze it. The combination of hot expanded gear hole and cold shrunk camshaft usually makes it pop right on (in most other applications, I have not done this on a scooter, but lots of other gear systems).

Got the new throttle cable in the mail, rides great! Took it out for a 8 mile ride going 45-50mph and was thrilled when I turned it off and found no leaks!
Thank you all for your help! Seriously, everyone has saved me so much time and money and I actually learned a thing or two about how to use a gear puller.

I can't seem to get a good grip infront of the seal! there's no gap between the seal and the gear. I'll try one more time. probably doesn't help that it's 20 degrees haha i might just bring the scooter inside EDIT: Butter knife is working.. Will let you know when I'm done with the whole seal! Hello, sorry I’m late to the party, but I think I’m having the same issue the the scooter I picked up from a friend at work. That first bigger gear is alil tricky, any tips with that butter knife? I was a little confused there. Great form by the way! It helped me get in the right direction for that pesky oil leak.

Quick update, I got an impact gun and it took the bolt right off, it was spectacular. I can’t wait to swap out my old struts on my car now that I have that thing. I cleaned out the casing to confirm the oil leak was coming from the shaft.
