I haven't been pushing the petition; it's hard enough to find riders that care, say nothing of those that care enough to take time out of their day to sign a petition. But it's still there, and the signatures will accumulate. Patience is something I have no shortage of.

In wet weather you could be stuck for hours to days so here it makes sense to make your tire choice part of your safety gear. I ride with a group comprised of mostly large cruiser bikes and most of them choose tread life over traction so if the weather is even humid they can end up sliding around the roadway like they are on ice while my bike is rock solid.
Yes bikes with tires not suitable for wet roads are very dangerous when it's raining or damp out.
Most of those guys on the cruisers with the slippery tires are usually out in short sleeves, shorts and loafers. They have big bikes so they don't need safety gear is their reasoning. Besides they all have windshield's like the side of a barn.

why does it seem some people want the GOVT to mandate everything we do?
i guess they wont be satisfied until the GOVT tells us when to wake, what kind of coffee to drink, what to wear, where to go, what helmet we must wear, what to do, when to do it.
gee move to a NON democratic country , like saudi arabia, they LOVE to tell people, exactly what, when, where but never why

i guess they wont be satisfied until the GOVT tells us when to wake, what kind of coffee to drink, what to wear, where to go, what helmet we must wear, what to do, when to do it. Daylight savings time tells me when to get up. Coffee and all other food stuffs must conform to government health standards. The government insists I must wear clothes. Restricts my access to numerous sights, civil and government. Motorcycle helmets must conform to ECE 22:05. The law, enacted by government, tells us what we may or may not do. Also, for certain activities, when we may or may not do them. All these things are perfectly normal for civilised society. They even provide a place for people who don't want to abide by societies laws. It's called prison. Ian

And we have a rule against political threads.
End of discussion.

Ironically I find the more I'm armored up (safety gear) the more other motorists tend to act with greater courtesy towards me and also in respecting my place on the road. I guess with the gear on you come across as a responsible/professional/adult who is worthy of more consideration and as someone who values their own life.

I guess with the gear on you come across as a responsible/professional/adult who is worthy of more consideration and as someone who values their own life. I have found the same to be true. With just the half helmet and no gear that I wore before I found out that the right gear for the weather was more comfortable than going with out people would always be trying to pass and such however now with the fullface helmet, boots, carbon fiber gloves and an armored riding jacket they seem to take more notice. Possibly the common misimpression is that without the gear you must be riding a 25/35 mph bike. As they say, "perception is or becomes reality" even if it is a false impression. After all most folks won't understand the differences in the scooters but will see the differences in the riders.
