i'm guessing i will need to change the gears but will a free flow exhaust and modified airbox give me more mph in the meantime? i'm going to install my new pipe soon as those jets arrive (still waiting, sigh).
i've put about 60 miles on her so far. been keeping it under 35 mph for the first 50 miles then gave it an oil change yesterday and drove it WOT for the first time. i went from a 44mm to a 50mm piston and i am not seeing any improvement with this new bbk. both top speed (about 45) and acceleration seem about the same. only noticeable difference is going up hill i can maintain speed unlike before.
gear: i have many questions about gears. i been looking at the Hoca gear sets. 16/42, 17/41 and 18/46, i know millsc had installed 18/46 and got his scoot to 58mph iicr. how strong is acceleration with 18/46? would 16/42 get you to 55mph with better acceleration? and finally does a video of installation exist? i've seen scrappydogs vid but it is a series of snap shots.
if anyone can answer any of my many questions please help. thank you!
edit: just remembered, my new clutch arrived yesterday. don't have time to install today but tomorrow i am going to work on the cvt. perhaps i can gain more mph with some transmission work.

Just adding a bigger piston will not make you gain speed if you are maxing out your variator already. It will give you more torque which you seem to be getting since you can hold up hill speed now. Did you use a performance head with bigger valves? If you're going to pull a 18/46 gear you will need all the power you can get. Mill, has also recommends a few heads that work well for more power.

Oh I forgot to mention the gear install. I don't know of a visor out there but if you did you own bbk then a gear install will be very easy for you.

Ramblinman, Here are Videos of installing gears in your tranny. You can see the gears you will be changing out, You can see to the right more continued videos numbered. It is not hard at all if your lucky the gears just slip on splines. If they are pressed on then a little more work or you can take them to a garage to have them press the gears on the shaft(s). The 18/46 gears had good acceleration better than stock actually. But to reach 50 and beyond you'll need a big valve ported head along with performance exhaust. I ran mine with a 24mm carb no spacer some say its too big but the ports on the performance head are made for the stock 150cc manifold. You need to max everything to get speeds over 50 gears alone won't do it. Big valve head a9 camshaft 24mm carb uni filter hi pro exhaust work great together. Buford here on the forum makes the best heads they create tons of power. The head makes a huge difference in power and also determines the compression ratio.

Now there is an honest response about getting a 50 to possibly reach 50+ mph. Alleyoop

Much easier to build a fast 2T than a 4T . I can do 50 MPH up a large steep hill . Unsure of top speed it only registers 50 and I do not have a GPS or geekphone

I had a secret 63cc and put on a 50mm BBK it had more power on take off and up hill but the same top end . I used the Air Sal BBK . When I went to sell it I let a guy ride it he had the cash in his hand before he came to a stop . He was used to a restricted 50cc and was amazed at the diff .
You can only go so fast with 10 wheels get a scoot with 13s or taller for top end . I love the ride of my 2T with 130/60/13s better than my Echarm with 16s and my old TaoTao with 10s

A 150 would easily go 50+ stock

Get the 150 id never go back to a 50 my modded 50 wasn't much slower top speed than my 150 but the torque acceleration and hill climbing from 50 to 150 is huge.

I'm always amazed at how many people buy a 50 and immediately try to hop them up when 150 are not that much more, probably no more than the 50 plus mods.
