Storing my scoot for the winter. Is it better to run the engine every so often or just let it chill (after proper winterizing) until I'm ready to resume regular riding?

Run it for 10 minutes at least once a month. Keeps seals from drying out, and prevents your battery from over discharging.

Sorry but do not run it unless you intend to ride it for a while. 10 min once a month is just enough to build up some lovely condensation. Your seals will not dry out. Which seals are we worried about exactly anyway??

Yup, unless you run the engine long enough to get really hot and boil off all the condensation in the oil, you're just adding to the sludge.
Drain or stabilize the fuel. Fresh oil change to flush out the acidic nasties. Fog the cylinder with lubricant if you're really concerned. Set the battery up on a trickle charger. And then leave it be.

Storing my scoot for the winter. Is it better to run the engine every so often or just let it chill (after proper winterizing) until I'm ready to resume regular riding? Start it up and let it warm up for 15-20 minutes or so no lights on if you can control the lights and it will be ready to rock and roll in the spring no problem. I start it up and let it warm up ONCE a week or ONCE every two weeks and it is ready any time of day or night 365 days out of the year. Have been doing this since 2009. Doing this will keep the fuel flowing through the carb and keep it clean as well as keep the motor parts lubed. In addition to that it will keep your battery pretty well charged up, I have yet to put my Junior Battery Tender on the battery and that is in OVER 4YRS. Alleyoop

Here is what Honda says to do to prepare a motorcycle for winter storage, most applies to scooters as well: Honda Winter Storage Guide

I know it's bad for the battery to be nearly empty, and only charged for a couple of minutes a week/month. It's better to ride it for at least 10 minutes; or buy yourself a dyno, and try your scoot to do this:

Now those are some good money making tips from HONDA(SEND ME YOUR MONEY HONEY). And the DYNO is even funnier, what are you people telling this poor soul to do is just to funny for words and really overkill. If he has it available that he can start it once a week or once every two weeks he does not need to worry about problems with it in the spring. The only thing if his charging system is not up to pare he will have to just put his battery on charge when he does go to start it and run it for 15 or 20 minutes. Alleyoop
