My aleous 300 has developed a problem. It occurs after it has not been started for a day or 2. Simply put it will turn over and spin until it spits and backfires a couple of times then it will start and run fine. The motor is strong and smooth. I am confused. Any ideas folks?. It would sure be appreciated. Thanks.
P.S. The scooter has only 2700 miles on it.

Hey bones 113, have you check all the vacuums line (make sure your not getting a air leak) and intake clamps, and air box and filter, sound like you might be running too lean.

If it backfires starting it, it is getting to much fuel check your air filter it may be soaked with oil and not enough air is being sucked in which would then get to much fuel.
Also if you haven't adjusted the valves in 2700 miles it is time, the exhaust valve is probably tight and not sealing and it is losing compression. Alleyoop

Hi Thanks for the info. I adjusted the air/fuel ratio It did not help. I will check for loose air lines etc on my next off day. I will also pull the air filter and check it as well. The valve adjustment will be a fail safe action as I needed to adjust my valves on my other linhai 300 at 9000 miles. Each bike maybe different though. Its funny because once it cranks up it runs like a bat out of hades . I will change the fuel filter and plug when I am inspecting the vacuum lines. Cant be too much wrong with it i don't think. I am continued to be amazed at the power of this bike. It will really fly. For the $890.00 I paid for it I cant complain. Thanks guys.

Don't forget when the motors are cold and you go to start them THE ENRICHER(CHOKE) is feeding a LOT of extra fuel for the cold starts. So if the Fuel Ratio Mixture is set to RICH that will feed even more fuel and that is why you get a BACKFIRE when starting it cold. Also the valves not being adjusted doesn't help so before you try to adjust the CARBs fuel mixture Adjust the valves, Many start with the Carb but that is just trying to compensate for the Tight Valves, then after adjusting the valves you then have to RE-ADJUST the Fuel Ratio Mixture. Alleyoop Went to adjust the valves there is only 1 timing mark that I can see. It is just above the dip stick (After removing a small plug). There is no mark on the variator side of the scoot. I have watch videos posted here of similar scoots that show 2 tdc marks. Am I missing something or is there only supposed to be 1 mark on these linhai aelous 300 scoots?. I am afraid to do it before finding out for sure. Don't want to screw up. Thanks folks.

I have a Aleous 300. I discovered that rotating the throttle once or twice before trying to start it helps it start if it is quite cold. The carb has an accelerator pump in it which squirts a bit of gas into the manifold each time the throttle is applied. Remember pumping the gas pedal a few times before starting the old cars on a cold morning. Not many small engine carbs have an accelerator pump type carb but ours does, at least mine does. I discovered this one day as as I was looking into the carb while turning the throttle and it would squirt each time I turned the throttle. Be careful as you can flood it if you turn the throttle too many times before starting the engine.

I removed the variator cover to expose the belt. I did not see a timing chain. Is there something else to remove to access the timing chain.

That is NOT where the timing chain is, WATCH THE VIDEO it shows you where it is at . It is on the LEFT SIDE of the motor by the HEAD where the valves are. Alleyoop

I must be stupid because I don't see it. At least not in the slide show you provided. It does not show were it is or how to access it. It only shows the timing chain after the cover has been removed. I will look to see if I can locate it visually. My eye sight aint what it used to be but I do not see it in the link provided. Again thank you for your effort. I did not mean to ruffle your feathers.

Here is where the Cam Sprocket and chain are. You have to take the cover off to get at it and aling the mark on the Sprocket with the Mark on the case. You have two screws holding the cover one you can see in the picture the other is at the bottom. Alleyoop Here is also a VIDEO so you can see how he goes about it: :
