ok, yesterday, I stopped at a red light, when I went to take off I heard the belt squeal.. So Obviously its time for a new belt. well I have two extra's one is basically brand new that I took off my old scooter. I had just put it on two weeks before the engine blew.. I put it on first, after I put it on, I went for a cruise and I had great acceleration, but the CVT never changed ratios, so it just would out and barely had any speed.. hmm I thought. Well I took off the cover and noticed a piece of metal was wedged in between the clutch and spring and all that.. I also saw a small spring in the cover that fell off aswell. It looks like the spring was attached to this piece of metal and they broke off somewhere inside the clutch?? I mean I looked inside it and saw two or three other little springs, but I cant see the spot where this one fell off. Well I took it for a ride to see what happens, and it took off great, but it was like it went too far in the gear ratio.. like my engine doesnt have enough power to go that fast. like it was doing like 5k rpm but shouldve been much faster.. does that make sense? so I couldnt really go anywhere because the scooter was too slow now. If it had more power, I estimate this scooter couldve been going 55+ MPH before I wouldve wound it all out... That isnt right. not right at all. So I put the other belt I have on it.. its slightly used from my friends 80cc Honda Elite, but its just fine.. well now I have GREAT acceleration, but when I get close to top speed, I have a pretty bad vibration going in and out coming from the CVT area.. SO what should I do?! should I drive it and just be aggravated by the vibration? how much is a clutch? how hard is it to change? omg. Im so stressed out, this is my only transportation to and from work and everything else! SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP! I know there is a few people on here from Greenville, SC. One of you helped me in the past, but I cant remember his name. I went over to your apartment and we went for a short test ride together after we tried working on it. If someone could help me omg I would be so thankful. .. even a video would help.

Be concerned as the vibration can destroy you exhaust system, rear bodywork, crankshaft and gearbox. You at a minimum need a new clutch making certain to lubricate the needle bearing that allow it to spin on the clutchshaft. If the Clutchshaft is starting to wobble then the gearbox bearings will also need replacing also otherwise the clutch will just get shaken apart again.

Yes you need a new clutch, the springs hook onto one end of the Clutch Arm and the other onto another hole built into the clutch. So one of the slots broke and now your spring fell out and that Clutch Arm is flying in the wind. Not to mention it is doing more damage. Here is what a Clutch looks like and the springs and how they hook on. Alleyoop

The clutch is easy to install as after you have removed the CVT cover you only need to remove the single nut holding on the clutch bell, remove the clutch bell and then the entire clutch slides off the clutch shaft. You should already know this part as you should have pulled it to replace the belt anyway as the needle bearing that run on the clutch shaft need to be greased when you service the belt otherwise you can get chatter and vibrations that can destroy the clutch assembly. The assembled clutch assembly is available from our sponsor PartsForScooters for $49 with the 50cc QMB139 version in the link below: www.partsforscooters.com/Clutch_shoes_qmb139?sc=38&category=138773

hey thank you guys so much for the advice, It is greatly appreciated.. I didnt take anything off to replace my belt, I have gotten crafty these last few years with these scooters and I can slip a belt on now, in about 30 seconds without removing anything other than the CVT cover. Its good to know that I will only need to take off that one nut. But its gonna be hard for me, because I dont have the tool to stop everything from spinning when you try to take it off. I took it for a ride this morning, ten miles each way.. I had to, or else I will get fired. It doesnt vibrate too bad unless I get around 8k and above.. Im hoping I an just kinda putt putt around for the next 2 weeks until I get paid again, and then just replace the clutch. Im thinking for some reason, when I grabbed the tensioner and pulled it open when I put the new belt on, for some reason that piece broke.. looking at that picture, it must have been the piece of metal attached to the clutch itself, and not the pad. I put ALOT of miles on this scooter. average around 200 to 250 miles a week! I bought it about 2 months ago used off craigslist, the speedometer and odometer hasnt worked in who knows how long, so there is no telling how many miles are truly on this scooter. But im positive that in those two months, I have come very close to if not, have drove it 2000 miles. I love my communist scooters! I always drive the everliving out of mine lol.

You need to remove the clutch to lube the needle bearings the run on the clutch shaft whenever you are in there for a belt change. If you don't the bearings will run dry and shake the clutch apart. Now you need to check the clutch shaft for wear and if it is scored in any way then you will now need to replace it or you could loose your new clutch. Also if you roll the CVT belt over the drive face you can damage the cords in the belt causing excess vibration, damaging the clutch and bearings. That 30 seconds can end up costing you close to $10 a second.

It really wasnt that tight for some reason... the last one I had was though.. I was worried that I was gonna break the belt when I turned it over to get it on (Like a bicycle chain) But this one I basically just did it all by hand without even turning it with a ratchet..

If the belt went on realtively easy then it was most likely too long. Regardless of how easy it is to roll on without removing the clutch you still need to remove the clutch and perform the required greasing of the needle bearings or you will have issues. The GY6 has a weak design the way the clutch shaft is set and really should not be subjected to the addtional stress of rolling a belt on over the drive faces. You also damage the cords in the belt when you stress it sideways which can cause early failure.

The belt isnt too long, It's the exact same belt that goes on nearly all 50cc GY6's lol.. But yea, im gonna try and make it until next pay day, and then im gonna take it all off and check it all out and lube what needs it and replace what ned's it.. I damn sure need to replace the brake pads, Might aswell do it, while im taking everything apart.

well son of a ! well I went to my old scooter, and I tried to pull off the clutch and put it on my new(er) scooter. I cant get the damn thing off! There isnt a belt on this thing, so I just stuck a metal bar through the holes in the wheel so that it wont spin when I try to take the nut off the housing. well that was a pain in the damn in itself let me tell you. But anyway, after forever I finally got it to where the tire wont spin, but I damn near strain, and instead of the nut coming off, the whole thing starts spinning... ?!?! HOW THE DO I GET THIS THING OFF!!!! can anything EVER go right for me ?!?!

Impact wrench? Or stick your spanner tool in the holes of the clutch bell to hold it.
What is spinning? The clutch bell should be hard geared to the rear wheel. If you've jammed the wheel then the clutch bell shouldn't move. It's kind of hard on the gearbox to do it that way though,

Doesn't matter if its hard on that gearbox because its an old parts scooter that doesn't run anyway... but yea, i don't understand it either.. I don't know why or what it was moving.. the wheel was locked tight, but I would like put all my strength into it and it would start spinning around ... like the whole clutch would move. but that ....... nut would NOT come off!!! I put so much force into it that the rim got bent on the wheel!! I just damn gave up. And I don't have "Spanner Tool" or whatever you called it.. damn I wish I did, it would make things so much easier for me. I am worried that when I try to take this one off that it will do the same thing and then I will screw my scooter up and be rideless.

Maybe it was over-torqued. Maybe someone used thread lock. You could try heating the nut a bit. Could also let it soak in penetrating oil. If it's really stuck that bad to the point that you bent the rim, then it may be time to resort to more destructive tactics.
If it were me and I was that desperate, I would carefully grind off one or both sides of the nut and then give it a good smack with a cold chisel and hammer. You would have to replace the nut, but if it's a parts machine anyway then that's not an issue.

Saw a video where the guy had a rope through the wheel and tied around the center stand keeping it from spinning.
