recent purchase. has only 2100 miles so the owner used it a few times a year. it ran well the first time i tested it so i bought it. the first 30miles were ok, but it barely hit 40mph now its only hitting 36 and running funny. bogging out up hills and at full throttle.
owner said they didnt ride it much this past year, no signs of rust, it should do 45mph at full throttle. either way, its not running healthy.
im going to put some gumout and a new spark plug and check the air filter.
what else should i check??
any comments or suggestions would be great. if i can get this 80cc back to 40mph or 45mph i would be happy. 38mph would be fine for where i live and the use but its just running like a lemon. its fun though and looks great!

Yes do what your going to do and also adjust the valves, I am sure they have not been adjusted within the 2100 miles. Since it is colder out and is bogging it is most likely running lean so adjust the fuel ratio mixture richen it up. Alleyoop

I've got an 80cc elite in here with a mind of it's own. Sometimes it runs great, sometimes it don't. If I take it all apart clean the carb (which ain't easy to get to) put it back together, it runs great for a week or so. Let it sit and it goes right back to not starting and running like crap when it does start.
I'm going to put a new carb on it and sell it for what I took it in on trade for. Tired of playing.

Honda elites are nice scooters and properly taken care of, they'll do 45 all day. Gumout and products like that are NOT good for rubber seals or gaskets like the diaphragm. You're better off taking the carb off, breaking it down and unclogging ports, jets etc with pipe cleaners and let the metal soak in carb cleaner overnight.

I had a 80cc elite and mine would do what you discribed,it's been a while but if I remember correctly the air filter housing cover was not seated properly so I tightened it down evenly and it ran like a champ, I could hold it at wot all day it would hit 47 no problem
