I had a long talk with Jim yesterday, and it seems we have a lot in common. Both retired military Been to some of the same places. Served pretty much during the same period Retired pretty much at the same time
And, I just ordered one of the Burgandy Zodiacs.
Reason: I had a bad motorcycle accident 10 months ago, and lost my L leg-above the knee. I can't do two, but I can do three (I'm talking wheels-gentlemen) Hope to get it in a week or so, and then I'll take some pics and give my first impression. It appears that this Zodiac is the best of the Magnum/Compeller/Etc combined I certainly hope so.
I've been looking at these things for a year or better, and since I ain't gonna be riding my Goldwing any time soon (I'm gonna sell it to cover the cost of the Zodiac) and I'm not gonna be able to do a full trike conversion on my Honda Shadow Sabre, I decided to get a trike. Little did I know my inability to make a decision (a civilian problem-not a military problem) was a good thing, and the Zodiac is the result.
I've already got plenty of mods in my head. (cup holder, radio, lights (LED's-red ones under the body, to look purdy at nite) pin striping, a crutch holder, Iphone holder, and who knows what else)
Anyway, Thanx Jim, and I'll be keeping in touch.

Davec, sorry to hear about your accident. Congrats on your purchase. Trikes are great for those of us that can't "do two" anymore and still want to have the wind in our face. Trikes steer different than a two wheeler and will take a little getting used to. You must slow down more for a corner, they turn wider, and you have to remember they are wider at the rear. These larger trikes do have some power and if you use reverse don't give it to much throttle. Also thank you for your service to our country.

Question: I had seen a post where RapidJim has included a link to the engine manual they use for their 300cc Trikes. I believe it is for a Yamaha YP250 But, for the life of me, I can't find it. I thought I had downloaded the pdf file, but it appearently didn't work. Anyone have a ink to that manual?
2nd Question: If the engines on the 300cc trikes are the clone of the Yamaha YP250, what is that in Chinese speak (Linhai VOG). I'm wanting to find out what I can now, before the bikes shows up at my front door. (valve adj, carb, etc) for any performance improvements, if needed.
Thanx again
Dave

I just ordered a new Zodiac from Jim via Calf. IAvatar is off their site) Jim has called me a couple time just to let me know the status of the trike That all the paperwork had been completed and they were starting to put the trike together Then he called to say the PDI was done and waiting on the Post PDI inspection of the first PDI. Then to let me know they wer building the crate and it would be delivered sometime next week.
I'm like a kid at Xmas. 300cc water cooled new toy.
I chose a trike for one (well maybe more) reason I lost my Left leg 10 months ago in a MC accident I need a place to put my crutches, when I don't wear my leg I'm not comforable riding my Goldwing or my Shadow 100 with a missing leg. (I got a prostetic leg, but not sure it would hold up the bike, with psgr, etc)
I don't have $30K for a new GW trike (or $20K for a used one) I don't wanna spend $10k to trike out my Honda Sabre. (at this time) But I do have enuf to buy this Zodiac, and get my knees (well, actually knee) back in the wind, as I was told.
But, in my research I do have a couple questions, mostly dealing with maint of the trike and engine. So, here goes:
1. I understand the oil to be used is NON energy conserving oil. Just like the Wing and Shadow. Without the oil additives. Right or no?
2. I know Jim used the manual for a YP250 Yamaha for enging maint. But, just exactly what is the nomenclature of the engime? What type/name/etc. And, I understand there is no manual ,per se, to assist in maint, to further enhanse ones knowledge of the trike.
3. Oil changes at 1000 miles (or 600 miles 1000 km's), as well as oil changes during break in period. which is at xxx miles? I read to change oil every 500 miles for 4 changes to get al the 'bad stuff' outa the engine case.
4. Rear gear oil at the same time as engine oil or every other oil change?
5. The fluids and plug have been changed during the PDI. Should I change the hoses also (gas line, etc)
6. How about regreasing the front axle? Is chinese grease (I read on another forum on the Harbort Freight trailers, that there is little to no greasre on the wheel spindles) acceptable?
7. I also understand the need to periodically do a pre flight inspectioin, nuts bolts screws oil air etc etc.
8. Are there any simple (even a cave man can do it) performance upgrades one can do to this engine? I don't wanna do a cold air/hi air flow air cleaner cause I don't feel like (really don't know) how to rejet, and which jets to use? Also, should the air intabke between the carb and manifold be changed? (the PO of my 150 Wildfire had to change his out shortly after getting it)
9. Valve adjustment; (my hondas don't need valve adjustments) but what is the time table for a valve adjustment? I'm reluctant to go by 'when it starts starting hard/running bad, it's time to do a vavle adjustment'. Every 4000 miles?
10. Tire pressure for these trike tires. On my wing and Sabre, I keep like 35 in front and 40 something in the back. What is the proper tire pressuer in these fat tire trikes?
11: all right, you got me, I'm intentionally trying to revive this Trike thread, re energize the interest in trikes, (but I am serious about my 10 questions above). and enjoying the riding season.
What say y'all? Show me your titt....trike.

Got another call from Jim yesterday. My Zodiac has been PDI'd (twice), crate built, and shipped as of last Fri. Is supposed to get here Monday (Which, I know, is April 1st) (Jim-this better not be a really BAD April fools joke!!) Again,I'm like a kid at CHRISTmas. I've got a little over 1000 things I wanna do to it, but gonna keep it stock until I'm sure all the bugs are outa it, and I can just enjoy riding it. And, I'm aware that if anything does go wrong, it ain't Jims fault. But, I do know, that if I do have any questions, I only have to make a quick call and he'll tell me where to go. (JK) I've really learned a lot these last couple weeks about not just this scooter/trike, but about scooters/automatic motorcycles in general. It's almost got me convinced that scoots/trike scoots/automatic trans/CVT motorcycles, may be the way for me to go. (other than long distance road trips that is, beings that I'm getting older [63] and only one leg)
But, let's get started on this Zodiac first, then we'll see.
More to come, no doubt. And, yes, this is a shameless attempt to revive the trike thread.

I'm interested in an Ice Bear also. Sure would be nice if you'd give us a blow by blow account of your new machine. After following this Board for a long time it appears Jim is a great source for machine and advice, but, him in Wi. and me in Va. has stopped me from getting one.
I don't even have a place to see one.

I don't even have a place to see one. Well, I did the unthinkable, and ordered one sight unseen, (cause there aren't any in circulation cause they're new) from Jim. He was great in the ordering, letting me know the status and is working onthe paperwork. Icebear did the PDI, so the warranty is good for the full period. The shipping co was great in keeping me informed of the delivery. It's in Columbus now waiting to be put on a truck and delivered to me (Today I pray) More to come
