Noob Zodiac Rider here,
Had the Zodiac on the road for about 1 month. Seems to run well enough, good fun. Lots of small issues, loose bolts in particular.
Wondering if anyone has had issues with pod bolts? Seems that the 2 main bolts are stripped and will not stay tight. They fasten into a nut that is welded to the metal frame. I think the nut is also stripped. Cannot get to the bolt once the body panel is in place, so the fastener needs to be secured to the frame.
I am thinking about drilling out the bolt and retapping with a 3/8 bolt, but I am not sure there is enough sidewall material on the bolt.
Other ideas?

I've had mine for a couple months Got around 250 miles so far (weather sucked till lately) I went thru it when I first got it and tightened everything up, changed oil, little things like that. The only main probloem I've had so far is a heater hose, and a loose bolt holding the water pump line. And a few weeks later it started leaking agin. This time it was the hose clamp. Was stripped. Replaced with a much better hose clamp and leak is gone. Not sure what you mean by pod bolt. If it's a bolt that holds the body panels on on, yea, tap and replace with a new bolt and nut. It takes a ittle geting used to, cornering, guestimating where the rear tires are when cornering, parking, etc. But, I'm liking it so far. It gets me mobile, and that's the main thing. Get a lot of looks and thumbs up. As previously mentioned, there isn'tmuch upgrading engine wise for these 300cc engines , but, they really don't need much. I'm still on break in, but can do 60 easily with more to spare. Don't plan on doing anything mechanical to it (except maybe replace the rollers wtih sliders) as it fits my needs. However, got a few cosmetic things to do: Chrome trim around the fenders, cup holder, tach, voltmeter, radio, replace battery in line fuse with a blade fuse, cig lighter plug for cell fone/gps, and a few little things like that. All in all, I'm enjoying it.

Mr. P Thanx I ride a trike cause I have to, and, I enjoy it. Actually, I'm kinda getting into this scooter thing. Next I want a 300cc 2 wheel scooter I rode cruizers/Tourers (shadow 1100 and a Goldwing) for years, but an accident (while on my Rat Bobber Magna) ended that experience. I got this Zodiac cause it looks really kool, needs little performance upgrades, don't have to shift/balance, and it's a chic magnet. Not as much room as there is in the back seat of my caddy, but, it works for now. Just another toy in the garage.
Enjoy life and ride safe

[replyingto=davec]DaveC%20%20[/replyingto]DaveC,
Went out to take pics, and just started to futz around. Had it back together solid before I remembered the pics, and ya can't see anything with the top body panel in place. That's what 60+ years will do to ya, maybe you have this issue also?
Anyway, I was able to get a nut on both sides of the mounting bracket that supports the Pod, and put in a piece of threaded rod for a stud. Added a few washers and lock washers and the whole assembly seems really solid. At least for now, that pod really gets to rockin and rollin over the crappy roads here in Michigan.
I went through about the same drill as yourself, tightening and straightening, I did add a different, smaller, steering dampener from eBay. The one that came on the scoot was worthless, leaking, and struck out the fuel door on right turn. Really not sure it does any good, but the new one seems to fit better, it's about 2" shorter overall. Had to monkey with the mounting of course.
It's been fun, I use it to get to my boat, about 35 miles, and that is just about all I can take, sure wish it had bigger tires.
Cold again today, time for honey dues.
Enjoy...

Still not sure which POD you make reference to, but, yea, all the body panels needed to be tightened, add a few rubber washers, and just general maint. And, yes, the seat kinda sucks. I also need a back rest. My back aches like crazy after about an hour or so and 40/50 miles. My short leg needs some kinda support also, it just kinda hangs there.
But, for fun in the sun it's great.
But, I am interested to know more about what steering damper you got I still get a little vibration from the front end occasionally.
I'm waiting till I get all my mods stuff before I put em all on So far I've just done the cup holder, and chrome door edging trim abound the front fender, rear body panel, and windshield.
Yet to do the tach, cig lighter, in line blade fuse, Shark Motorcycle audio system, voltmeter. I saw a video where a guy took a head rest form a Mazda and made a back rest I've got a Corbin back rest left over, maybe I'll try something different.
Gotta take off the front wheel, regrease everything and rough up the pads. They seem to grab and squeeeellll.
But, I enjoy it.
Good health and great riding (and good fishing)
Dave

Ice Bear has not used the independent rear suspension since 2012. I did confirm this with Ice Bear today to make sure they did not do another mod. The Zodiac has always been a straight axle. If a dealer is advertising that it is they don't have a clue what they are selling. Which doesn't surprise me with some of the so called dealers out there. Don't get me started LMAO

RapidJim Questions or who else whats to chime in while riding steering wobbles is this a out of balance tire or is steering up on top loose, also seems like I got a lot of vibration till I bring up RPMs. When cold low idle when warm idle goes way up vacuum leak maybe? How to get air box when needed cleaning under seat? if so how do you take out plastics there. There has to be a trick I see a couple of screws and four plastic push in tabs it also look like in is in 2 pieces? 2015 Zodiac 300 cc. I would like to bring it down to get PDI but it will be brought on trailer.

There's a few things that can cause these symptoms,,loose head bearings ,,tire imbalance,,any one or more of the steering rods or joints,,handlebar mount loose on the steering stem,,and a personal preference for me would be the addition of a stabilizer,,,and I think you hit the erratic idle as an air leak,,, check all the hoses and connections and also the carb/ manifold / manifold to head bolts

The Zodiac has a steering stabilizer. I always do a rear tire balance on any trike that is sold off the lot here and that I do PDIs on. It is part of my checklist. That way if there is an issue, I can rule out tire balance.
There will be some motor vibration at an idle due to the fact it is a one cylinder 300cc. However, your situation does indicate a vacuum leak.
Removing body panels is a core on the 300s. You can get to the air box from the left side by going underneath after you jack the trike up It is tight but can be done, better than removing a lot of panels. Hopes if you have the access panel under the seat off to aid in removal.

So far what I found the tire is made of nylon I remember year ago they got flat spots sitting on then over night and had to drive them for a while till they smooth out. In my case looks out of round. So next I will break bead try the turn turn tire to another spot on rim and balance it if that doesn't work I will replace tire.
