So far as I know, I've never had a problem with the CDI on my TaoTao. It has shut down on me a couple of times when running WOT for a while, and may have overheated it. Not sure if that was the CDI: or what. It started right up and got me home. Scared the bejesus out of me. I was way out in the boonies in Central Florida, east of Avon Park, where I probably had no cell service, and where my wife probably couldn't have found me anyway.

Never had any problems on my TaoTao stock CDi's neither. They work better than any other, providing more mid-range torque.
I don't think my EVO150 nor my ATM50 ever overheated! I did once have the EVO150 hesitate, because I was tailgating a truck at almost 70MPH, and the RPMs surpassed 9250.

The seller of the CDIs is sending a new one, no issues and easy transaction. I can't say I really notice a difference with the new CDI but at least I have a backup now in case one ever fails.
After 3 trips to the DMV and a few calls to the dealer, I finally got my scooters tagged! The first DMV rep told me I did not need to tag my scooter and that they don't title them either. After explaining to her that was true for scooters 50cc or less this scooter is 150cc. Then a few attempts to get my paperwork in order and a few trips to the DMV I was good to go.

One of the two scooters has a vibration in the steering only when coasting. It doesn't feel like a wheel out of balance but rather a pulsation from the brake rotor. Upon visible inspection it seems to be straight but if I lift the front week and spin it there is one spot that contacts the brake bad. I think this is causing my vibration.
I plan to get my dial indicator gauge and see how much it is off but just have not had time.
Any suggustions?

It took me 1 1/2 years to finally get the title for my TaoTao. I bought it, in Georgia, from a Florida person, who's brother-in-law was actually making the sale, since the owner had returned to Florida. He was a Corps of Engineer campground host, never took it on the roadway, and hence had never titled it. When I bought it I got just the Certificate of Origin, which was in the owners name. The DMV would not accept that to title it. They wanted him to title it, in Florida and then sign it over to me. I then was told about a "Title Bond", about $50 from my insurance company. Then they wouldn't accept that because the scooter was too new, try again next June. So in July of last year I sent all the paperwork in again, and was again denied a title. So after asking for a supervisor, I was told to send it to the supervisor's attention, and 3 months later I finally got my title. At least they gave me a registration and tag before they denied the title application, and I was able to ride it.
So, the TaoTao with the Georgia title, I now keep and ride in Florida, and the Honda Reflex I bought and titled in Florida, I now keep and ride in Georgia. I probably ought to get that straightened out.

It took me 1 1/2 years to finally get the title for my TaoTao....... Wow I am glad mine didn't take that long! I ran into an issue similar to yours with a trailer I wanted to title that the previous owner never did.... Usually I go to the DMV and the people behind the counter are extremely rude. But this time, all three I encountered were very friendly. I know the people they deal with on a daily basis, including myself, can get pretty frustrating.

I ran into a similar problem Bought a 2001 scooter from a seller in AL he had bought the scoot from the original owner in GA he only had the MSO I went to the DMV in Tenn and showed them the paperwork and they said the original owner would have to title it in GA and then transfer the title to me. Waited one day and went to a different office. Asked for a supervisor. She asked to get my Bill Of Sale notarized and have the local sheriff's office do a VIN search and certify that the vehicle wasn't stolen. Then I filled out a form that asked me to explain why I didn't have a title, and I was given a new tag! )

Only a few more days until we pack up the scooters and head out on our road trip. I think I got them where they need to be for the trip. I have the gas vent line zip tied up in the frame but I made the mistake of over filling my tank and when it splashed around it came out the vent. I was thinking I would put a check valve inline so that air could get into the tank when the gas drained into the carb but the check valve would not allow fuel to spill out. But then I was thinking.... what would happen when the sun heats the tank and the gas expands. With the check valve in place it would cause the tank to become pressurized. Would this be enough pressure to force the carb needle open and flood the carb? I assume the gas cap is not vented…. Any thoughts?

If the carb floods, it just takes a little longer to start, and you'll end up popping the exhaust; but nothing serious. The sun generally won't heat the tank, because the saddle's taking all the heat, unless you leave it open, which is unusual.

Have a great time on your trip. If you get anywhere near Sebring Florida, give me a shout. We're heading down in a couple of weeks, and will be back and forth several times this winter.

If somehow the lack of venting does over come your float (unlikely but...) it is a bigger deal than described above. Gasoline will flood into your engine and you will end up with it in your oil. You don't want that. Why not cap it and look for a vented gas cap?

So.... We are scheduled to head out on Friday. Our plan was to visit 5 national parks over a 3 week period. I sure hope the government shutdown is resolved quickly or we won't be seeing any of the national parks.

As long as the rotor is not visibly moving the brake pads left or right while rotating, it's fine. You could either ride around a bit, brake with pulsing brakes (kinda like a fake ABS), and the rotor will straighten over time, or get it treated. But unless the pulsing is hard, I don't think it can do any damage (just a bit annoying). My brake rotor is just fine. Just an out of alignment tire, that seems to seat better with time (it vibrates so much less now).

Have a great trip....
And the biggest bang for the buck for performance is tuning the variator.
