[replyingto=scooterb]scooterb[/replyingto]Interesting, my 2010 TaoTao, does not match the VIN decoding on several points. The model designation does not appear on the list, I have a air cooled CVT with a belt drive and the VIN decoding says liquid cooled chain drive, the origin code is L5N not L9N.n Well at least the plant location code is correct.

How long can I expect the OE drive belt to last?
Should I replace it now? Only 127km on my scoot?
When I do replace it should I use the exact same size? Or is there a benefit in changing the belt size?

I got 3k KM on mine, stock. RPMs went up, but I don't know if it's the belt or the sliders. They mostly recommend to change it at 4 to 5k km, around 4k km, I'll open the variator and see. I know the BMS260 ate through the belt quite quickly. Hope this one will last longer.
In any case, it's wise to already order one; that way when it's time to change, you don't have to wait for shipping.

Here is a time lapse of me doing the PDI on my second Evo.
Replaced all the fuel lines, vacuum lines, new valve stems, valve adjustment, added 12v outlet, new coil, spark plug, etc....

Nice! Now only one more thing, which all these scooters should have (like my BMS 260 had) is to have a place on the dashboard to install the GPS on. My BMS TBX260 had a flat surface under the handlebars that could host a GPS, however it's better to have that space above the handlebars.

Well as much as I dislike the looks of a windshield on a scooter.... I added one anyway. The bugs at night are ridiculous around here.... And since we will be scootin' in temperatures in the 40s I am hoping it will deflect some of the cold air at 50mph. I ordered the cheapest windshield I could find ($25 each/shipped) since I don't think it will be on there for too long... At least through our trip.... I ordered them from "globalmotorimports" on eBay and the seller was extremely helpful. They shipped really fast and I had a damaged part and they shipped it out same day; no problem. When I ordered them I saw the blue logo on the windshield and was hoping it was just a sticker... It wasn't.... oh, well The screen was coming in contact with my mirrors and the front plastics... So I used some leftover vacuum hose. Cut it down the middle and super clued it to the windshield. Worked great. This should also help with vibration noise when it contacts the plastic at speed. I also used nylon nuts instead of the nuts provided with the windshield so hopefully it will stay snug and not move under the force of the wind.

I've got that same windshield on my TaoTao. The mounting hardware is kinda flimsy and the brackets bend at speed. It's ok, but, I have to push it back-up straight evry once in a while.

I was a little worried about that... I have not ridden it since I put it on but plan to this weekend. Does the metal bend or is it the nuts that don't hold it securely? If it are the nuts and bolts I am hoping the locking nut and thread locker will fix that.

It seems like the metal bends, it's pretty thin stuff. It did help when I turned the rods so that they are as front to back as you can get them, so that the rod takes most of the load. I really couldn't get the bolts tight enough when the rods pointed to the side.

I should have done it that way too but it would cover my disc brake cover.... which I really won't need to access. And it would have required me bending the support rod/bolt for the windshield which I didn't want to do until I knew what angle I would want the windshield to be.... I guess time will tell but I am sure I will end up moving it, removing it, or tweaking it a little.

I have the same shield on my ATM50 too! It's true that it's not meant for over 45MPH. The shield bends. Also, the screws and bolts rust.
It's a good shield, but mine is cracked already (got a star or flake shape in it), because of a small pebble hitting it at ~45MPH.

So I got two orange CDIs and they arrived today… One of the two is dead on arrival. Time to see if the eBay seller has any support after the sale. And I am sure they will make me pay return shipping.
